Overview

InfraTerra, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Project Geologist with 2 to 8 years of professional experience to work in a technical support role with geologists and engineers in Oakland, California. This is a full-time position with flexible work schedules.

InfraTerra performs engineering geology, seismic, and geologic hazard investigations to develop innovative engineering solutions to make infrastructure safer, integrating geology with structural and seismic engineering.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in geology or geological engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience.
  • Experience presenting technical solutions in written and oral formats.
  • PG or CEG preferred; otherwise ability to obtain PG within 2 years of hire date.
  • Proficient in technical writing, with strong verbal communication and organizational/analytical skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Technically proficient with ArcGIS Pro; advanced GIS skills including familiarity with ArcGIS Python preferred.
  • Ability to work on a team and independently in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Responsibilities

  • Compilation and digitization of subsurface borehole datasets using gINT and/or OpenGround.
  • Review and synthesis of geologic, seismic, and geophysical datasets.
  • Mapping of bedrock or Quaternary deposits using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Preparation of geologic reports that summarize site and/or areal conditions, including geologic hazards.
  • Site reconnaissance to observe existing conditions, assess site access for subsurface explorations, and identify important site features.
  • Obtain permits, coordinate data acquisition efforts including drilling operations and geophysical surveyors, and provide QA/QC to ensure data is collected accurately and safely.
  • Field logging of soil borings following USCS classifications and logging rock cores to characterize subsurface geology.
  • Instrumentation installation, monitoring, and/or analysis of data from piezometers and inclinometers.
  • Development of geologic cross-sections and 3D geologic models; Leapfrog and SketchUp experience preferred.
  • Interpretation of lidar data, multi-beam bathymetric data, and multispectral imagery.
  • Field characterization of landslide and erosion sites, including geohazard type and activity, using GPS-enabled tablets.
  • Conduct fault studies, including trenching, geophysical, and borehole investigations of active faults.
  • Landslide mapping, slope stability assessment, and monitoring.
  • Help develop and adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans; participate in site safety briefings and audits.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position in Oakland, CA is $80,000 - $140,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions.
