About the Role: The Enterprise Architect requires competency in one key technological area of the bank and works with other architects to develop and review designs for information systems aligned with the bank’s goals, needs, and objectives. Lead the design, integration, and governance of enterprise cloud and AI architectures, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, scalability, and regulatory and security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Advisory and Collaboration: Act as an advisor to technology groups and the bank, collaborating with all levels including executive management on the bank’s technology direction and business goals. Drive adoption of secure, scalable cloud solutions (Azure, etc.) aligned with business needs.
  • Enterprise Architecture (EA) Patterns and Frameworks: Create EA patterns and antipatterns. Develop and maintain enterprise cloud and AI architecture standards, models, and governance frameworks. Develop and maintain enterprise cloud reference architectures and AI solution patterns.
  • Strategy and Roadmap Ownership: Own the development and alignment of technology strategy and roadmap within a defined domain. Lead AI architecture initiatives, including integration of machine learning, natural language processing, and generative AI capabilities.
  • Research and Development: Stay engaged in industry and technology trends. Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies for cloud and AI capabilities. Drive creation of an enterprise technology radar with classifications such as Hold, Assess, Trial, and Adopt.
  • Requirements Definition: Translate user and process requirements into enterprise architecture designs aligned with EA Principles.
  • Product and Solution Delivery & Integration: Collaborate with application, solution, and technology architects to ensure business and data architecture alignment. Support application modernization and hybrid/multi-cloud deployments.
  • Industry and Brand Stewardship: Participate in industry events, publish white papers, host webinars to advance the technology brand.
  • Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship in technology best practices across teams.
  • Additional corporate functions: Compliance with bank regulations; maintain knowledge of policies; coach or train others; contribute to Columbia culture; support the vision of becoming the “Business Bank of Choice.”

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience (required).
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Azure, AWS, or GCP Architect certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in analysis, design, development, or deployment (required).
  • 4+ years as an EA, AI, or Cloud architect (required).
  • Strong ability to review designs for compliance with strategic direction.
  • Excellent organizational skills to identify and resolve architectural issues.
  • Hands-on cloud experience (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Architecture Frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, BIAN) and Well-Architected Cloud frameworks.
  • Proficiency in contingency and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Collaborative professional with ability to build partnerships with technical and non-technical leaders.
  • Proven leadership and ability to mentor the next generation of architects.
  • Ability to anticipate risks and communicate mitigation plans.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to convey business value of technology.

Location & Travel

Job Location(s): Ability to work fully onsite at posted locations. OR, CA, WA, ID, NV, AZ, UT, CO. Travel: Discretionary, as needed to fulfill essential functions.

Benefits

We offer a competitive total rewards package including base wages and comprehensive benefits. The pay range for this role is $116,647.72 - $180,000.00, with compensation depending on knowledge, skills, experience, and location. The role may be eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, details provided during recruitment. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with employer match, life and disability insurance, tuition assistance, mental health resources, identity protection, discounts, paid time off, volunteer days, and holidays. Eligibility begins the first day of the month following hire for eligible associates.
