Overview

Blue Origin is developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. We are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. This position is for a Fluid Distribution Subsystem Responsible Engineer/Technical Lead for the Fluids team supporting our pathfinding mission to the Moon. You will provide technical leadership to the team, mentor and train members, advise on technical approaches, and contribute to the complete life cycle of the system from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation. You will plan component schedules, manage risks and develop mitigation plans for hardware. You will work with internal and external suppliers to design, build, test, and analyze components for lunar missions. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to the Fluids team across the life cycle of the Fluid Distribution subsystem: definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation.
  • Plan component schedules and manage risks with mitigation plans for hardware.
  • Collaborate with internal and external suppliers to design, build, test, and analyze fluid components (e.g., valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, instrumentation).
  • Mentor and train team members to develop capabilities within the group.
  • Work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area.
  • 8+ years of experience in fluids and mechanical systems/components.
  • Experience developing, integrating and certifying aerospace systems for flight.
  • Experience with fluid/gas components such as solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels and instrumentation.
  • Experience leading small teams and subcontractor teams to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Familiar with either agile or waterfall project management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships.

Desired qualifications

  • MS in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area.
  • Systems Engineering experience, specifically requirements and interface definition, management and verification.
  • Cryogenic fluids experience.
  • Experience with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS preferred).
  • Experience with upper stages and spacecraft.
  • Experience with the entire life cycle of a propulsion and fluid system.

Compensation

Base pay range: $129,611.00/yr – $197,342.25/yr. Compensation ranges may differ by location. For CO applicants it is $129,611.00-$181,454.70; WA applicants $140,959.00-$197,342.25.
