Responsibilities

• Hands-on design and implementation of scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehousing solutions aligned with Azure Well-Architected Framework pillars.
• Accountable for a suite of highly complex data models, applying data modelling standards to ensure high quality outcomes.
• Drive best practices for data security, privacy, and integrity.
• Ensure reliability and efficiency of data infrastructure within Azure cloud.
• Understand AI-driven data engineering tools and contribute to building AI-ready data and AI-driven use cases.
• Collaborate with other departments to define and deliver business value, interfacing with program teams, management and stakeholders on large, complex projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead the production of high-quality data engineering deliverables, support project timelines, and mentor junior team members.
• Design, develop and implement ETL processes extracting data from disparate sources for analytics, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Develop and define future-state data architectures aligned with industry best practices and organizational needs.
• Design data architecture strategy and assess enterprise architecture to provide recommendations.
• Translate requirements and solution architectures into detailed design specifications.
• Define and implement data management strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Lead data quality reviews and data cleansing to ensure data integrity and quality.
• Resolve data quality and integration issues, driving continuous improvement in data engineering practices.
• Provide leadership within the work group and establish appropriate governance, processes, and tools to deliver projects.
• Monitor industry trends in cloud and distributed processing and assess potential business impact.
• Provide technical expertise to maximize efficiency, reliability and value of data engineering processes; monitor client and industry developments for new opportunities.
• Develop strong working relationships with peers to deliver leading data engineering solutions.
• Enforce adherence to data engineering and data modelling standards and processes.

Skills And Attributes For Success

• Data Architecture: design and implement data architecture using Azure Well-Architected Framework pillars (Cost, Operational Excellence, Performance, Reliability, Security).
• Infrastructure Diagrams: create Azure Infrastructure Architecture Diagrams that accurately reflect architecture and align with best practices.
• Data Extraction, Ingestion, Processing, and Modeling: design efficient extraction, ingestion (batch and streaming), processing, and data modeling solutions with strong data governance and security.
• Data Governance and Security: design governance mechanisms including data catalog, lineage, classification, MDM, and authentication/authorization strategies.
• Data Integration: develop ETL strategies ensuring seamless data flow across systems.

Required Technical Skills

• Hands-on experience with data architecture patterns (Data Mesh, Data Fabric, Data Lakehouse, Data observability, DaaS).
• Proficient in Azure services (Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse) for scalable data solutions.
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, Function App, Logic App for data orchestration.
• Proficient in SQL and familiar with Python and Java.
• Extensive work on Databricks performance optimization, data ingestion, transformation and consumption.
• Experience designing and building data platforms integrating disparate data sources.
• Experience in security-focused design (authentication/authorization).
• Expertise in distributed MPP designs and performance optimization.
• Experience with Azure, Databricks, Spark, NiFi/ADF dataflows.
• Strong experience with large analytic warehouses and Spark architecture.
• Experience with distributed message systems (e.g., Kafka).
• Proficient in Python, PySpark or R; strong SQL.
• Understanding of big data and distributed architectures and ingestion workflows (Oozie or similar).
• Knowledge of security measures (HTTPS, Kerberos).

Beneficial Technical Skills

• Azure Data Lake Store, Databricks Delta Lakes.
• NoSQL databases, advanced analytics, ML and AI.
• Graph databases (e.g., Neo4J, Cypher, CosmosDB).
• Experience developing microservices.

Education

• B.E. / M.S. in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, IT, or related field preferred.
• Big Data Certification from Cloudera/Hortonworks/Databricks.
