Responsibilities
Engages in population-appropriate communication. Understands growth and development milestones and provides clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care. Identifies physical limitations and deploys intervention when necessary. Recognizes and responds to behavioral health concerns. Interprets population-related data to plan care. Responds to diverse needs related to psychological, religious, or cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication, and operates equipment safely. Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
Assist in implementing age-appropriate care for specific patient populations, including direct patient care as part of the clinical team.
Obtain vital signs, EKGs, laboratory specimens, and other information as required for proper evaluation, following Medical Assistant competencies and universal precautions.
Assist the provider in documenting notes, orders, and prescriptions in the Electronic Medical Record; documents will be reviewed, edited, and signed by the provider as appropriate.
Prepare and maintain the clinic area (cleaning and stocking examination rooms, daily setup and securing of equipment, maintenance of diagnostic equipment).
Return routine patient calls (such as prescription refills or pre-certifications) with appropriate documentation of actions taken.
Coordinate ancillary services (diagnostic testing/imaging, hospital procedures, admissions, additional patient visits) and obtain pertinent medical records.
Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in all interactions with patients, staff, physicians, and management.
Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; keep patient care information confidential and adhere to legal responsibilities of the medical assistant role.
Administrative Duties
Using computer applications; answering telephones; greeting patients; updating and filing patient records; coding and filling out insurance forms; scheduling appointments; arranging hospital admissions and laboratory services; handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or graduate of a medical assistant program (minimum).
License and Certification: Certified or Registered Medical Assistant from AAMA, NHA, NCCT, NAHP, ARMA, AMT.
Years of Experience: 7–11 months equivalent experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to communicate clearly with patients of all education levels; calmly handle emergencies; ability to work without close supervision and set priorities; manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; proficiency with electronic health record software.
