Government Administration Responsibilities

Assist the Public Defender in managing the Law Office of the Public Defender’s Felony Division. Be accountable for all actions of the Felony staff attorneys, contract attorneys, and support staff. Coordinate with the Public Defender to implement goals, policies, and procedures to provide effective representation for indigent clients charged with felony offenses. Assign work, supervise and evaluate the Felony Division’s legal staff and contract attorneys; monitor caseloads. Recruit, select, train, evaluate, and discipline Felony staff attorneys; advise on transfers or promotions to other divisions. Provide direction for case preparation, trial strategies, client communications, plea negotiations, and sentencing advocacy. Conduct monthly meetings with the Felony Division to discuss issues and solutions; serve as liaison to the Court of Common Pleas and ancillary offices. Qualifications

Admission to the Ohio Bar (Section 4705.01) or as prescribed by the Revised Code. Completion of 24 CLE credit hours in the applicable two-year reporting period. Current valid Ohio license in good standing. At least 5 years of experience as an attorney in Ohio, with a distinguished record showing leadership and supervision of attorneys and staff. Experience handling complex cases and difficult clients. Illustrative Duties

Oversee management of the Felony Division; monitor and assist in caseload management; supervise and evaluate staff and panel attorneys. Lead coordination with Training to develop orientation for new municipal staff attorneys; provide mentoring for staff and contract attorneys. Handle inquiries from clients and families regarding representation; develop relationships with community resources for division clients. Collaborate with the Public Defender to maintain relationships with community groups in Cincinnati area. Develop and maintain paralegal and attorney training materials; ensure accurate records and litigation notebooks. Prepare and deliver communications with police, law enforcement, and government agencies; ensure effective courtroom advocacy and sentencing strategies. Senior/Job Level
