Overview
Director, Software Engineering (Infrastructure and Integration Services) – Capital One. You’ll work on building platforms that use cutting-edge open source frameworks, highly-available RESTful microservices, and back-end Java-based systems and machine learning models using Big Data techniques. You will bring solid experience in technologies such as Node.js, Java, Go, Angular, React, Python, REST, NoSQL and relational databases, Spark, and AWS/Cloud Infrastructure. You will lead our Infrastructure & Integration Services organization, delivering foundational technology infrastructure across Capital One’s office and retail spaces—including networking, firewall, audio visual systems, and technology asset management—while guiding technology integration for small-to-medium mergers and acquisitions. This role requires an "automate-everything" mindset, scaling through standardization and tooling, and evolving the function to be modern, resilient, and automation-forward. Responsibilities
Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product-focused software engineers Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios Continuously improve software engineering practices Collaborate within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies Lead craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other engineers Encourage innovation, implement cutting-edge technologies, promote inclusion and diversity, and foster teamwork and self-organization Improve velocity across your teams and others Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments Break existing monolithic applications into microservice architectures and build new microservices Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree At least 7 years of experience in software development At least 5 years of experience in people management Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering 10+ years of experience in software development 5+ years of experience in Agile practices 5+ years of experience with infrastructure domains such as enterprise networking, AV systems, firewall, asset management, and physical space integration 5+ years of experience automating infrastructure delivery or operations to reduce manual effort and scale services across distributed environments 5+ years of experience with scripting and automation tooling (Python, Ansible, etc.) 5+ years of experience leading or directly supporting M&A technology integrations 5+ years of experience developing standardized playbooks and reusable tooling Capital One will sponsor qualified applicants for employment authorization where required. The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries are listed by location. Salaries for part-time roles are prorated. McLean, VA: $263,900 - $301,200 for Director, Software Engineering; Richmond, VA: $239,900 - $273,800 for Director, Software Engineering. Other locations follow the applicable location pay range; the offer letter will reflect the actual amount. This role may be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI), discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
