Job Summary
The Data Scientist will play a key role in advancing Jefferson Capital’s forecasting and strategic analysis capabilities. Reporting to the Vice President of Data Sciences, this role is responsible for designing and enhancing complex prediction models that accurately forecast investment recovery rates, as well as developing scoring systems to monitor portfolio quality. The Data Scientist will leverage statistical tools, programming languages, and large datasets to drive actionable insights, while also identifying opportunities for improved prediction accuracy and risk management. What does a typical day look like?
Forecast Modelling and Data Science
Develop and enhance multi-variable driven prediction models to accurately forecast the company’s short, medium, and long-term investment recovery rates by investment. Utilize statistical and database platforms to manipulate large amounts of data from various sources for the purposes of analysis and review. Identify and integrate cost-effective third-party data that enhances prediction accuracy. Measure ongoing forecasting accuracy against historical predictions and make forecasting changes as necessary to enhance. Present financial reports to Executive, Shareholders, Board of Directors, investors and external lenders. Strategic Analysis
Provide recommendations to Management regarding proposals within the business including, but not limited to, prediction improvement, data management, reporting advances, and asset profitability enhancement Proactively identify and recommend key risk management and/or business growth initiatives. Prepare and manage project plans and reports to management on the status and recommendations and analysis. Qualifications
A degree (Bachelor’s/MBA) in Computer Science, Business, Math, Economics or Engineering and/or related work experience 5+ years of experience in building statistical models to generate projections, preferably within the consumer receivables industry Accuracy, attention to detail and sound judgement Strong business acumen with a good understanding of business environment to provide meaningful analysis Advanced Microsoft Office skills, advanced Excel Experience with SAS and SQL Experience and understanding of database structures and querying, including the ability to design reports from blended data sources. Experience with programming languages such as Python, R and VBA may be helpful Highly adept at identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives Independent and proactive with proven experience in taking on new projects with little supervision Effective written and verbal communication skills, with proven relationship building skills and ability to work with various levels of management Demonstrated ability to effectively manage internal relationships by collaborating within the department and across business units Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and mentor team members where no direct reporting lines exist Ability to effectively manage internal and external expectations in a dynamic, fast paced and demanding environment Why join us?
