Our Temecula, CA location currently has an opportunity for a Senior Plastics Engineer. What Youll Do
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. The Senior Plastics Engineer is responsible for injection mold life cycle management and ongoing support of injection molded components used in Abbott Vascular products. Serves as a technical SME for injection molding and as a project manager for molding projects, collaborating with molding suppliers, operations, supply chain, quality and R&D. Engage in tactical and strategic activities to support ongoing business objectives, including cost improvement initiatives for molded components; supplier and resin changes; capital replacement strategy for end-of-life tooling. Troubleshoot molding and tooling issues with suppliers and lead/internal investigations as needed to resolve. Work closely with molding suppliers to ensure reliable supply of parts. Perform capacity analysis for injection molds and press-side automation, and make recommendations for future investment. Must have demonstrated ability to participate in a team environment, create urgency when needed, and maintain effective relationships with peers, customers and vendors. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Requirements gathering; process design and development; tooling design; procurement and qualification. Concurrent management of multiple projects. Development of cost estimates for capital and expense projects. Create and maintain project schedules; oversee cross-functional team activities to achieve program objectives. Transfer of molds to new suppliers; validation of injection mold tooling and process at new suppliers. Regular interaction with molding suppliers to meet quality and cost objectives. Participate on cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve molding issues. Identify and evaluate potential cost improvement projects through up-cavitation of new molds, press-side automation to reduce labor, combining parts with insert/over molding/two shot molding and resin changes. Write specifications; design verification/validation protocols and report. Capacity analysis and long-range planning to ensure continuity of supply. Use of FMEA and SPC to ensure reliable molding processes are in place. This position reports to the Manager of Plastics Engineering. Position manages projects from $50M to $2MM with critical milestones. The position is responsible for the reliable supply of molded commodities to all sites and customers. Ensure that all molds are run in compliance with quality standards and procedures. Education And Experience Youll Bring
Bachelors’ Degree (Engineering or technical discipline desired) Required; or equivalent experience plus demonstrated competence. 10+ years technical work experience with 5+ years of plastic injection molding, process engineering support and/or tooling experience, preferably in the medical device industry. Knowledge of plastics processes, resins, tooling required. Knowledge of FDA QSRs and ISO requirements preferred. What We Offer
