Our client, LiquidPiston, is reimagining the internal combustion engine with their patented X-engine architecture — a compact, fuel-efficient rotary engine powering the next generation of defense, aerospace, and commercial platforms. As they transition from R&D to commercialization, LiquidPiston is seeking a dynamic Director of Operations to help scale their infrastructure and lead cross-functional execution. About the role: As Director of Operations, you’ll report directly to the CEO and take ownership of core operational functions — including procurement, machine shop, finance/admin, facilities, and IT. You’ll build the systems and processes that enable a fast-moving engineering team to go from concept to production while maintaining efficiency, compliance, and scalability. You’ll thrive here if you’re: A hands-on operator with experience in small, growing companies (20–100 employees) Comfortable leading across departments in a technical, R&D-driven environment Capable of rolling up your sleeves to solve problems while also thinking strategically Passionate about building scalable systems to support hardware innovation Responsibilities: Oversee day-to-day operations across procurement, facilities, IT, finance, administration and machine shop Build practical systems, processes, and procedures appropriate for a growing engineering organization Lead operational planning, budgeting, KPIs, and cross-functional project execution Build and mentor internal teams, establish systems, and ensure compliance (e.g., ITAR, OSHA) Drive vendor management, contract negotiation, and capital equipment acquisition Help implement ERP and other tools to streamline processes and support production scale-up Qualifications: 7+ years in operations or general management (preferably in hardware, tech, or engineering environments) Leadership experience in multiple functional areas (supply chain, finance, IT, admin, facilities) Experience in a startup or small-business setting where you’ve built systems from the ground up Familiarity with prototyping, manufacturing workflows, and engineering team support Strong communicator and team builder with a bias toward action Ideal (but not required): Background in defense, aerospace, dual-use technology, or government-funded R&D (SBIR/STTR) Experience selecting or implementing ERP or other operational tools Exposure to compliance-heavy environments (ITAR, OSHA, etc.) If interested apply here or LiquidPiston Apply Here
