Sr. R&D Engineer – Shockwave Medica l to join our team located in Santa Clara, CA Position Overview
The Sr. R&D Engineer will use technical skills in the development of innovative products to treat peripheral, coronary, and heart valve diseases, with a primary focus on early-stage / phase-zero development. The Sr. R&D Engineer will be responsible for advanced research and development of products and processes associated with executing the company’s goals and objectives. This role supports the development and commercialization of Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) to treat calcified cardiovascular disease within the Shockwave Medical portfolio. Responsibilities
Design and develop products in full compliance with the company’s Design Control requirements and consistent with FDA, ISO, and MDD requirements Prototype and develop proof of concept designs, disease models and test methods in a simulated environment; develop new product designs based on defined user needs Select and develop materials, coordinate procurement to support prototyping and pilot operation Test new products, including bench testing, competitive benchmarking, animal testing and clinical evaluation; document protocols and test reports Collaborate with clinical and scientific advisors and key opinion leaders to translate clinical needs into design solutions Partner with PDP teams to translate finished device requirements Develop protocols/reports and perform product in-vitro, in-vivo testing and verification/validation Support pilot manufacturing with design tasks and documentation Maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies and related biomedical developments Maintain component and assembly documentation for new products Provide updates on milestones and issues to project teams and management as needed Ensure documentation compliance with the company’s quality system Other duties as assigned Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Materials Science, Chemical or Biomedical/Bioengineering) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical device engineering, or a master’s degree with 3+ years’ experience Extensive experience designing and prototyping catheters Knowledge of catheter device design, material selection, and testing Strong understanding of engineering materials, component selection, and design for reliability and manufacturability Experience in early-stage catheter-based cardiovascular devices development is a strong plus Effective communication skills with all levels of management Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities Ability to work independently or as part of a team; adaptable to changing requirements Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS and Design of Experiments is a strong plus Employee may be required to lift objects up to 25 lbs Johnson & Johnson is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
