Overview

Senior Substation Engineer - Physical Design. Base pay range: $151,400/yr - $200,000/yr. Jacobs is expanding its Transmission & Distribution operations in North America within the Energy & Power Group to tackle decarbonization and utility modernization. The Senior Substation Physical Engineer will interface with utility/developer clients and regional/global delivery teams to develop Substation Physical design deliverables for utility upgrades, including greenfield/brownfield projects, AIS/GIS substations, offshore wind facilities, and interconnection facilities. The role may include acting as an Owner’s Consultant/Owner’s Engineer (OC/OE) and mentoring team members across North America and globally. Responsibilities

Develop and deliver Substation Physical design deliverables for utility upgrades (greenfield/brownfield, AIS/GIS, offshore wind facilities, and interconnection facilities). Interface with client standards, provide feedback, and develop Substation Physical design deliverables on time and within budget. Act as independent technical advisor representing Owner’s interests when delivering major programs and overhauls of T&D networks. Provide engineering overview, direction, and mentorship to team members across North America and globally. Support sales and proposal preparation, and ensure high-quality delivery of services to clients. Engage with professional societies (IEEE, PES) and participate in industry events to promote services and stay updated on industry innovations. Qualifications

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s degree may count as 1 year of experience). Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States or ability to obtain additional PE licenses if needed. Minimum 8 years of substation physical design experience with utility or consulting organization. Strong knowledge of high voltage substation components and related systems (e.g., GIS, switchgear, grounding, conduit, BOMs). Experience developing substation physical designs from concept through IFC drawings, including general arrangement, conduit/trench plans, grounding, and related specifications. Familiarity with grounding, lightning protection, and station service calculations and studies. Experience reviewing vendor specifications and performing QA/QC on design calculations and drawings. Proficiency with CAD platforms such as Autodesk or Bentley products. Experience as Owner’s Representative is strongly preferred. Ability to scope projects, prepare task orders, review design work, and verify owner compliance. Ability to perform field visits and provide engineering support during construction. Strong communication and technical writing skills; team player with good interpersonal and presentation abilities. Benefits
