Senior Design Engineer at Caterpillar Inc. Decatur, IL. This role involves L4 system design responsibility of Large Structures based on L6 down-selected QVC requirements and active engagement in CPPD across multiple L4 and L6 teams. Responsibilities
Ownership of Large Structures design (QVC) for LWL/WDC NPI, CPI with a focus on Design for Manufacturing to improve automation efficiency across the supply chain (BTS, Robot, CNC machining and Paint). Develop and document functional requirements and translate into detailed designs via active CPPD. Active participation in Go See Act workshops during Pilot and Pre-Production Large Structures builds. Ownership and accountability to PMO-based project plans; communicate status with Team Leader, stakeholders and participating functional areas. Set-based design solution recommendations to resolve problems. Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Agricultural/Aerospace/Metallurgical engineering with relevant work experience. Proficient use of CREO. Functional understanding of Large Structures prints, GD&T, fixturing design for finished weldments and machining. Knowledge of thick-walled castings, thick plates (25mm+) and wear/abrasive material specs. Working knowledge of BTS to maximize robotic automation and post-weld treatment techniques to manage weight and fuel efficiency. Understanding of static/dynamic loading for major RI products. Experience with L4 design based on L6 down-selected requirements. Knowledge of FEA and manufacturing BTS/robotic/CNC programming methods. Project management: ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects with efficient use of resources. Troubleshooting: ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. Product design and development: ability to design, build, and develop a new product from concept through production. What Skills You Will Have
Functional understanding of RI Large Structures designs and services (Aftermarket). Deep knowledge of structural weldments, post-weld treatment, and robotics integration to maximize automation; understanding of static/dynamic loading scenarios. Experience with FEA, manufacturing BTS/robotic/CNC methods; effective influencing through expertise. Additional Information
Primary location: Decatur, IL. Domestic relocation assistance is available. Travel: up to 15% travel may be required. Visa Sponsorship is not available. Summary Pay Range: $110,520.00 - $165,840.00.
