The Payroll Director will be located in Austin, TX and report to the Finance VP. The role will develop payroll strategies, advise senior management, and lead a team within a shared services framework. The Payroll Director will manage programs, providers, and staff, ensuring accurate payroll data compilation, analysis, and reporting, and will establish systems, procedures, and policies for payroll compliance and requirements while partnering with internal stakeholders and developing strategic initiatives and goals. Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of accurate and timely payroll for ~10K US employees and a small Canadian population, while contributing to payroll strategy development. Oversee daily payroll operations using UKG Pro (US) and ADP (Canada), with future transition to Workforce Now. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Benefits, Compensation, Stock Tax, and Global Mobility to ensure consistent and efficient payroll processes. Act as the go-to expert for UKG Pro and manage integrations with Kronos (timekeeping) and Workday (HRIS). Partner with HR to implement compliant, end-to-end payroll processes that ensure timely pay. Manage relationships with payroll service providers, maintaining high service levels and seamless collaboration across platforms. Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax withholding, garnishments, and deductions. Communicate payroll updates and analytics clearly to employees and stakeholders. Support audits and financial reconciliations while maintaining strong internal controls and SOX compliance. Stay informed on payroll regulations and labor laws to ensure ongoing compliance. Deliver actionable payroll analytics to support business decisions. Champion process improvements and system upgrades to enhance payroll operations. Benchmark industry practices to maintain system integrity and drive innovation. Lead initiatives to attract, develop, and retain top payroll talent.

Qualifications

Requires bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field including CPP (Certified Payroll Professional, American Payroll Association). Minimum 10 years of related experience, including a minimum of 7 years of prior management experience. Experience in implementing and managing a large multi-state payroll provider required. Proven experience with SaaS Payroll systems (Ultimate Software/UKG Pro) and HR CRM (Workday). Proven implementation and delivery of a “service excellence” model/approach.
