Position title: Major Gifts Manager Location/Neighborhood: 44 Page Street, San Francisco, CA 94102; San Francisco neighborhood – Hayes Valley, Upper Mid-Market Remote/On-site/Combo: Combo – Work from home 1 day per week Department: Development Reports to: Director of Development FLSA status: Full-time, Exempt FTE status: 1.00 Compensation: $87,000–$92,000 salary Schedule: 40 hours/week; generally Mon–Fri with occasional evenings and weekends Anticipated start date: October 2025 About Openhouse: Openhouse enables LGBTQ older adults to overcome aging challenges by providing housing, resources, direct services, and community programs. Collaborate in the development and implementation of a major gifts strategy, including tailored cultivation plans, timely acknowledgment of gifts, regular communication, and ongoing engagement opportunities. Personally manage a portfolio of donors with annual giving of $1,000 and above. Expand Openhouse’s major donor pool through qualification of current donors and outreach to new donors; engage the Board of Directors, Executive Director’s office, and Development team. Establish and maintain a prospect pipeline for major gifts, track donor interactions, manage prospect assignments, and monitor progress toward fundraising goals. Ensure records are accurate and provide timely updates on donor activity and notes. Collaborate with the Development team to design and execute events, donor briefings, and other engagement opportunities to cultivate relationships and solicit major gifts. Make portfolio recommendations for board and senior leadership; support cultivation and stewardship of major donors and prospects. Support a successful capital campaign through stewardship of individual and institutional donors. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
At least five years of related fundraising experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. At least three years of progressive development experience in direct gift solicitation. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proposal writing and delivering a compelling case for support. Demonstrated success in cultivating major donor relationships, including securing gifts of $5,000 or more. Experience developing moves management plans, donor research, and prospect qualification. Strong time management skills and ability to work in a largely self-directed role, juggling multiple projects and deadlines. High level of discretion and commitment to ethical fundraising. Passion for Openhouse’s mission; fluency in English. Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with Bay Area LGBTQ+ philanthropic communities and donor networks. Experience planning and executing donor stewardship and fundraising events. Experience managing planned giving programs and/or capital campaigns. Experience working in Salesforce and Asana; proficiency in a second language is a plus. Physical Requirements
Full COVID vaccination required (or approved accommodation). Mobility to participate in team event planning and community activities. Working Conditions & Requirements
Occasional events outside standard hours, including bi-monthly development committee meetings, annual fundraising gala, and other community events. Must be able to travel locally to meetings or offsite events. Must be able to operate a computer and standard office equipment; work in a shared office space with moderate noise. Compensation & Benefits
