The School of Public Health at the University of California Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank or a tenured position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor rank within the Division of Epidemiology. We welcome applicants engaged in cutting-edge research that expands understanding of emerging and reemerging infectious diseases in both domestic and international contexts. We are particularly interested in research that partners with local, state, national, or global public health departments to translate research into practice, policy, or systems-level improvements for infectious disease control and prevention. Specific areas of interest include: Advanced epidemiologic methods and computational approaches to investigate interactions among agents, hosts, vectors, and the environment; Population-level characteristics of pathogens (e.g., phylogenetic structure and antimicrobial resistance dissemination); Evaluation of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention strategies for communicable diseases. We seek applicants with a strong commitment to community engagement and building partnerships with public health agencies and community-based organizations to support programs mitigating pandemic and other infectious disease threats and promoting strategies tailored to disproportionately impacted communities. The teaching expectation is three courses per academic year. For tenure-track candidates, there is a ramp-up period. We seek individuals with mentoring and teaching interests in epidemiology at undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Tenure-track candidates will have senior faculty mentorship and career development support, and will contribute to divisional and school service commitments. The Division of Epidemiology is a leading program in epidemiology and population health, with collaborations across the CDC and local public health departments to advance infectious disease surveillance, prevention strategies, and policy guidance on vaccines and other mitigation strategies. The UC Berkeley School of Public Health commits to diversity and inclusive excellence, offering open and equitable opportunities for learning and development. The school supports family needs of faculty and encourages candidates with nontraditional career paths or career interruptions to apply.
