Position Summary
The Regional Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a strategic partner and advisor to regional operations leadership, supporting 200–400 employees across multiple locations within the company. This role aligns HR strategies with business goals, providing hands-on support in employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, performance management, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and industry regulations. The HRBP acts as a trusted partner, helping leaders drive a high-performance culture focused on safety, service, and employee engagement. This role serves as the go-to person for all employee-related issues, including onboarding, offboarding, employee engagement & retention, leave management, managing employee disputes and disciplinary issues. May assist with performance management efforts and recommend policy changes when appropriate.
Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership & Workforce Planning
– Partner with Regional Directors and Area Managers to understand business needs and workforce priorities. Develop and implement HR strategies that support operational goals, seasonal workforce fluctuations, customer service excellence, and organizational objectives. Provide insights on workforce trends, retention risks, engagement & culture climate, and talent pipeline needs.
Employee Relations & Engagement
– Serve as the primary HR contact for employees and managers in the assigned regions. Handle employee relations issues, investigations, and conflict resolution in a fair, timely, and compliant manner. Coach managers on performance management, discipline, and employee development. Partner with operations leadership to enhance engagement and retention.
Talent Acquisition & Development
– Partner with recruiting to ensure timely and effective hiring for drivers, service technicians, customer care representatives, and other operational roles. Support onboarding and orientation for new hires and identify training needs in collaboration with Learning & Development (L&D) and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE).
Compliance & Safety Integration
– Ensure compliance with employment laws, DOT requirements, OSHA standards, and propane industry safety regulations. Partner with HSE and Compliance to support safety initiatives, training, and incident follow-up. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records per policy and regulatory standards.
Performance & Change Management
– Facilitate performance reviews, goal setting, and development planning. Support organizational changes, restructuring, and workforce adjustments as needed. Guide leaders in managing change effectively and communicating with transparency.
Regional HR Administration & Reporting
– Maintain knowledge of regional labor market conditions, wage trends, and employment law changes. Prepare HR reports and metrics for regional leadership and corporate HR. Travel periodically to locations to build relationships and provide on-site support (up to 20%).
Position Qualifications Experience/Education
Required Education : Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree; Master’s Degree preferred
Fields of Study Preferred : Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
Certification : SHRM-CP or PHR certification required or attained within 6 months of hire
Required Work Experience :
5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a multi-site or regional HRBP role
Experience in propane, energy, utilities, logistics, or other field service industries preferred
Demonstrated experience handling complex employee relations and compliance issues
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Microsoft Applications: Extremely proficient (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Additional Technology: High technical capabilities with ability to quickly learn and utilize new technologies
Travel: Ability to travel up to 30%
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Strong business acumen and ability to connect HR initiatives to operational performance
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build trust across all levels
Leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices
Ability to listen and probe to understand root cause of an issue
Nurture a positive working environment
Judgment, discretion and high integrity
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and travel frequently
