Position Summary About Project Sparky

These roles support Project Sparky, an AI-powered chat assistant for iOS and Android platforms. Sparky helps users manage everyday shopping tasks—such as ordering groceries or scheduling car services—by remembering preferences and past interactions to streamline repeat activities. The project is deeply rooted in generative AI and creating the groundwork to move towards agentic AI by enabling personalized, context-aware assistance that evolves with user behavior.

You will be part of a team seeking a highly skilled engineer with deep expertise in mobile architecture across both iOS and Android platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience building intelligent, real-time mobile experiences and a proven track record of strong collaboration with AI/ML, backend, and product teams. A commitment to performance, accessibility, and security standards is essential for this role.

What you'll do

Leads the discovery phase of large Mobile Engineering projects by collaborating with cross-functional teams to determine project strategy; interpreting strategy into sustainable mobile solutions; driving prototype development to ensure concept is feasible; and implementing prototypes to validate projects.

Collaborate closely with the service teams to define the right end to end architecture for building reusable mobile (iOS/Android) widgets and create the blueprint with the right integration patterns for consumption by various Walmart Mobile Products.

Troubleshoots business and production issues for mobile devices by reviewing and analyzing information, engaging support teams, analyzing issues based on mobile expertise, formulating and implementing an action plan, and performing root cause analysis across multiple mobile devices to prevent recurrence.

Leads project teams for Mobile Engineering projects by providing direction on project plans, identifying short- and long-term solutions and timelines, guiding on issues or roadblocks, reviewing and approving proposed solutions, implementing new architectural patterns, and performing design and code reviews.

Develops innovative mobile technology solutions and strategies to support business objectives by collaborating with cross-functional partners, developing assessments of key opportunities, benchmarking best practices, forecasting future technologies, driving high-priority initiatives, implementing solutions, and defining software development guidelines and processes.

Leads medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects for Mobile Engineering by translating requirements into cross-platform mobile solutions, gathering design documents and product requirements, writing and developing code for multiple devices, integrating solutions across operating systems, developing user interface solutions, testing for functionality, communicating status, and ensuring on-time delivery.

Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs, developing plans, removing barriers, providing resources, setting performance standards, and implementing contingency plans.

Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by mentoring, assigning duties, building a team-based environment, establishing performance expectations, conducting evaluations, and supporting diversity awareness.

Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and ethics by training others and ensuring compliance.

Ensures business needs are met by evaluating ongoing plans and initiatives, consulting with partners, soliciting and applying improvement suggestions, and supporting community outreach events.

You will have

MS in Computer Science or related field

20+ years of Software Engineer experience

15+ years of experience in building products for Mobile

15+ years of iOS/Android platform experience

10+ years of programming experience in Swift/Kotlin

5+ years of experience in collaborating with AI/ML teams

Deep understanding of various aspects of Mobile App Development

Experience in integrating with REST based backend services

Experience in working with large code bases and driving large projects

Experience in mentoring engineers and influencing others across the organization

Strong oral and written communication skills

Good problem-solving attitude and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in developing Rich Media Content or Conversational Applications in iOS or Android

Experience in Game Design, 3D modelling, 3D Computer Graphics, OpenGL is a plus

The annual salary range for this position is $169,000.00-$338,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Some positions may include stock or other compensation.
