Boehringer Ingelheim
Principal/Senior Principal Scientist, Multimodal Computational biology
Boehringer Ingelheim, Ridgefield, Connecticut, us, 06877
Overview
Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking an innovative computational biologist (Principal or Sr. Principal) to drive discovery of First-in-Class drugs to treat cancer. This position is a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the development of new therapeutics and work with industry leaders in broadening your skillsets in cancer biology, genetics, omics, biobanks, RWE (Real World Evidence), AI (Artificial Intelligence) and related computational biology methods. It is also an opportunity to grow yourself in a team environment of active professional development support, feedforward (vs feedback), continuous improvement, and empowerment. Duties & Responsibilities
Leverage innovative in silico approaches to identify novel therapeutic targets or biomarkers and improve our understanding of relevant mechanisms for enabling immuno-oncology, using multimodal omics data and computational systems biology approaches. Lead multiple bioinformatics projects that make innovative use of large-scale data to help identify new targets, and patient segments, and articulate those findings and observations to internal stakeholders. Drive hypothesis generation by applying computational biology approaches that include machine learning/AI techniques, data integration, and biological knowledge. Build and/or implement new computational biology approaches to translate biological data into insights. Help educate and train Boehringer Ingelheim colleagues in computational biology and related areas. Continue to develop scientific expertise, credentials, and drug development expertise by keeping abreast of relevant literature, by expanding scientific/technical knowledge, and by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and speaking at internationally recognized scientific conferences. Contribute to the greater good, including departmental administration, scientific culture, and technical evaluation of in-licensing opportunities. Qualifications and Experience
Principal Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in drug discovery or biomedical research after completing a doctoral degree, with at least two (2) years’ experience in drug discovery, strongly preferred. Several years of experience in independently leading computational biology-related projects in Oncology or Immunobiology using omics data, and experience interacting routinely with matrixed teams. Senior Principal Seven (7) or more years of relevant experience in drug discovery or biomedical research after completing a doctoral degree, with at least three (3) years’ experience in drug discovery. A minimum of five years in independently leading computational biology-related projects in Oncology or Immunobiology using omics data, and several years of experience in leading matrixed teams, with demonstrated achievements in impacting pipeline at various stages. Common Requirements for both levels
Ph.D. degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in biological, statistical, computational, or other quantitative science. Deep hands-on experience in a broad range of drug discovery or development efforts, particularly relating to target discovery and/or validation. Experience mining, analyzing and exploring multiple omics modalities, specifically within genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, or metabolomic datasets. Demonstrated expertise in Python, R or other languages, together with data visualization frameworks (e.g., ggplot2, matplotlib). Desire to learn basic statistics/ML and apply them. A keen interest in continuous development and broadening impact, such as reading new papers and learning new techniques in machine learning/AI for biological problems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across matrixed teams and clearly articulate complex scientific concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Eligibility
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction. Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical if required. Must be 18 years of age or older. Compensation
This position offers a base salary typically between $140,000 and $222,000. The position may be eligible for a role-specific variable or performance-based bonus and/or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here. Company
