Overview
Engineering Managers within our Technology organization play a pivotal role in creating an inspiring workplace where talented professionals are empowered to deliver outstanding digital experiences and business results. As the engineering manager for Inventory Positioning, you will lead a team to use AI to determine how Nordstrom utilizes its most important asset – inventory. Nordstrom has a complex network of stores, distribution centers, and fulfillment centers that bring products to customers where and when they need it. Optimizing the placement of that inventory is a challenging problem that requires a visionary leader. Role Summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the development and evolution of our inventory positioning platform. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Inventory Management, Supply Chain, and Merchandising to deliver robust, scalable, and secure software solutions. You will build and maintain a team that can consistently deliver quality software and operational excellence. Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team responsible for a complex platform for inventory positioning. Work with stakeholders to define and track KPIs, roadmaps, and priorities, aligning with business objectives. Work side by side with data scientists to enable the production deployment and optimization of ML models Drive cross-team collaboration to align technical strategy, manage dependencies, and ensure shared prioritization of deliverables. Enhance organizational vision and strategy to support company goals, with guidance from senior leadership. Ensure teams have the tools, resources, and information needed to be successful and continuously improve. Recruit, develop, and retain top talent, building motivated teams that deliver high-quality solutions efficiently. Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project planning, deployment, and operations to ensure excellence in execution. Promote continuous improvement by quantifying customer impact, eliminating waste, increasing productivity, and shortening feedback loops. Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of relevant work experience in software engineering 2+ years of experience managing teams The ability to quickly ramp up on complex business domains Proven track record of shipping well-designed, scalable systems for digital data, tested for performance and reliability Experience with building cloud first distributed applications Strong understanding of dev-ops best practices, including CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and production support Experience with agile methodologies such as SCRUM or Kanban BA/BS in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent practical experience Preferred/Additional Considerations
Exposure to Supply Chain or Retail Experience with big data tools such as Spark and Airflow Benefits
