Overview
Great Oaks Legacy is seeking an experienced, like-minded urban educator to lead its high school campus in Newark, NJ. The CTE Director is designed to support the Campus Director in setting a powerful vision for student achievement, motivating others to follow that vision, and strategically implementing the school’s mission through effective leadership and management of the school’s students and staff. The CTE Director will also ensure the efficient operation and management of the Career and Technical Education programs and support the College & Career Office to align CTE program objectives with postsecondary imperatives, and support the High School Campus Director in maintaining a vision for student achievement. Essential duties and responsibilities are described below.
Responsibilities
Planning, developing, and administering the GOLCS CTE Program; budgeting according to NJDOE regulations and internal policies, balancing projects within scope; creating programming that promotes access and equity and bridges achievement gaps in CTE programs.
Collaborating with administrators, student services personnel, college and career counselors, and teachers to develop multiple tracks for career development services aligned with community need and student interest.
Supervising professional development experiences for faculty, program events, and personnel related to CTE programming.
Preparing and submitting amendments to NJDOE as appropriate and completing and submitting reports per NJDOE deadlines.
Using data and advisory board recommendations to build industry-recognized credentials into CTE programs.
Researching CTE grant opportunities and connections in conjunction with the Chief Strategy Officer.
Supervising CTE program staff and overseeing CTE programs of study.
Ensuring funds align with the original budget in coordination with GOLCS Finance Leader and department.
Working with counselors to place students appropriately in Programs of Study.
Overseeing all industry certification testing, professional development for CTE teachers, inventories, tagging of equipment, and submission of inventory to the State Department of Education.
Overseeing advisory committees and organizing monthly department meetings for CTE teachers and staff.
Staying current on Carl Perkins Federal and State regulations that affect programs.
Attending State CTE quarterly meetings and summer conferences annually.
Maintaining relationships with community/state agencies and businesses to provide training aligned with needs.
Continuously appraising and evaluating the total CTE program to ensure it prepares students for gainful employment.
Maintaining knowledge of all pertinent rules and regulations affecting CTE.
Submitting forms and reports to state agencies related to CTE.
Making recommendations for long-term adjustments to the CTE program to meet changing job trends and needs.
Assisting in recruitment, screening, and interviewing of prospective CTE teachers.
Other duties, projects, and initiatives as assigned.
High School Leadership
School Culture – Define and build a transformative school culture aligned with Great Oaks Legacy’s values and mission; design and implement programs, initiatives, and rituals that promote culture and sustain values.
Staff Resource – Serve as a resource on culture and policy matters; observe and coach teachers and staff with a focus on culture.
Student Motivation – Support schoolwide programs to incentivize positive behaviors and create a school-wide identity among students.
Qualifications
Knowledge of and experience with career and technical education, student retention and completion, and academic programming.
Principal, Supervisor, or School Administrator certification, or meeting the requirements for certification (preferred).
At least five years of successful experience teaching and leading in an urban school environment; leadership roles such as Grade level leader, department chair, or instructional leadership experience preferred.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred.
Exceptional time management skills and ability to meet deadlines; ability to build and maintain relationships and partnerships.
Experience developing programs, planning events, and/or strategic planning initiatives; strong creative and critical thinking for problem solving.
Two years of program, project, or team leadership experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to create detailed reports, documents, and presentations.
Proven track record of elevating student achievement in urban settings with strong pedagogy.
Relentless work ethic and commitment to the school’s mission.
Excellent management, leadership, and communication skills to lead instructional and non-instructional staff.
Strong organizational skills and follow-through.
Compensation & Benefits We offer a competitive and fair compensation package that increases based on years of relevant experience. The minimum base salary for this role is $110,000.
