Lead Software Systems Engineer (Data Center Power Infrastructure) – Claros

Location: Onsite in the Torrance, CA office. Hybrid.
What You Will Do The ideal candidate will be an innovative problem solver, with the ability to create and implement structure (people, processes, systems) for an integrated software solution linking customers to SmartPower hardware.
Executive Leadership and Relationship Building:
Own Process Controls and Software technology roadmap including software interface and control hardware.
Build relationships with technical counterparts and attend industry and trade conferences. Leverage relationships with industry experts to drive standards and contribute to enabling technology adoption.
Keep abreast of latest technology trends and capabilities in datacenter power management, including application of AI/ML based systems for best-in-class load and power management.
Support and work closely with Business Development on forming strategic partnerships.
Deep Technical Knowledge and Ability to Create Robust Solutions:
Develop a deep knowledge of Operations and Maintenance (O&M) software capability for Data Centers from Edge Compute to Hyperscale. Understand customer pain points and competition technology roadmaps.
Evaluate and determine technology solutions (embedded vs OS) to provide on-demand power, high reliability, and dynamic load management capability to Data Center Microgrid Operators.
Understand customers' issues such as data latency, power availability, security, and critical infrastructure performance requirements.
Define software functional specifications that are created in conjunction with hardware functional specifications, initiate discussions between software/hardware engineering stakeholders to harmonize strategies and solutions.
Implement software solutions that include:
DER (Distributed Energy Resource) Compatibility – Interface Control Documentation (ICD) for any item connected to grid – multiple power generation sources (solar, fuel cells, wind, geothermal)
Energy Storage Devices control and management. Integration to Battery Management Systems (BMS) – including energy flow to/from storage devices; State of Charge (SOC); State of Health (SOH) algorithms
Error and Fault Safety Analysis:
Galvanic disconnect components
Protection coordination and isolation of faults throughout grid
Reliable and efficient Control Strategies
Statistical Process Controls (SPC) parameters
System alarms and fault detection
Automated control systems
Self-Optimized Control based on AI/ML-based algorithms
What You Bring
Ground-up implementation experience; hardware and software selection and project execution, particularly in the data center space and with applications around it
Proficiency in code languages (C/C++, Java, Python)
Experience with Modbus/CAN bus (negotiable), SCADA, SMBus/PMBus, Redfish, open-source software (OSS), Agile development methodology
BS in CS or Advanced Degree in EE or ME
10+ years of experience as Process Controls Engineer, Project Management, Operations, Business Unit leadership, or System Engineering
