NYC-based team (Hybrid 3+ days a week in office). Viam is a full-service engineering platform that allows developers and enterprises to configure and control physical devices in a data-driven and intuitive way. Whether you\'re managing one robot or thousands of devices in the field, Viam enables seamless cloud-based control and insights. The Core Services & Resilience team builds cloud systems and backend services that enable users to configure, monitor, and control physical robots or devices, at scale. We are looking for a Senior or Staff Engineer to contribute to architectural decisions, build business-critical features, and provide mentorship to junior engineers. Past projects include triggers, billing features, a maco-service split from the app monolith, and a shared background job queue. Tech Stack:
Backend-focused using Golang, MongoDB, and Linux on GCP. Basic frontend work with Svelte and Vue. Responsibilities
Architect and scale cloud services and distributed systems that underpin the Viam platform. Mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and foster an inclusive, creative team culture. Contribute to robotics, IoT, and AI-related initiatives through hands-on development. Shape broader application architecture and technical roadmap. Propose and implement gRPC API and core features (e.g., scheduling, logs, billing, triggers). Build internal tools and services used by other teams to ship features faster. Support user authentication and access management for the Viam application. Qualifications
Full stack experience with a focus on backend development. Experience building resilient backend systems across cloud services and distributed environments. Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to evolving goals. Enjoys mentorship and cross-team collaboration. Thrives in a collaborative environment with shared ownership and in-person teamwork.
