Recursion is seeking a highly collaborative, strategic translational biology leader to guide a future-driven, technology-oriented approach to robust preclinical data packages. The role focuses on identifying and validating innovative drugs with definitive clinical response rates, leveraging biological model systems and high-clinical-predictive endpoints, and developing high-fidelity biomarkers to enable early, informed decision-making. In This Role, You Will
Establish and manage translational strategies for preclinical data generation and clinical biomarker programs. Collaborate closely with development, regulatory, and business teams. Seek external opportunities to enhance internal approaches and promote a high-performance R&D culture. Lead translational strategy implementation, including model system development, validation, and translational research for internal and partnered assets. Provide senior scientific, strategic, and people leadership to a team of scientists. Foster scientific excellence, strategic focus, collaboration, and talent development. Oversee clinically relevant translational models, manage multiple projects and workstreams, and assess workload, timelines, and budgets to ensure delivery. Qualifications
Ph.D. required; M.Sc. with 15+ years of relevant experience acceptable. Degree in biological sciences or related biomedical discipline. At least 10 years of pharmaceutical experience (15+ with an M.Sc.). Oncology experience with deep cancer biology and early clinical development understanding. Proven track record of advancing programs from preclinical discovery to clinical development, specifically translational research for small molecule drugs. Leadership: ability to lead interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams; capable of prioritizing multiple projects to ensure high quality, on time, and on budget results. Strategic thinking: knowledge of preclinical drug discovery models; ability to synthesize scientific content and strategy for senior management and align drug development with preclinical research. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills; ability to interact with diverse stakeholders including clinical, regulatory, and operations teams. Detail-oriented with strong planning, time management, and organizational skills. Translational knowledge with a focus on discovery and early development; experience in clinical biomarker discovery and single-cell data analysis is a plus. Working Location
This is an office-based, hybrid role in Salt Lake City / New York City. Employees are expected to work in the office at least 50% of the time. Interaction with teams in Salt Lake City, New York, Oxford, and London, with some travel, is required. Compensation & Benefits
Estimated current annual base salary range:
$190,300 - $246,400 (USD) . Eligible for annual bonus, equity compensation, and a comprehensive benefits package. Values and Culture
