Overview This position is responsible for supporting the design and architecture of the firm's data, wireless, video, and VOIP networks, as well as cloud and IaaS based network connectivity. The Network Architect approaches solution designs with a high level of ownership to deliver secure and operationally sound solutions. This role focuses on physical designs that illustrate how the network system integrates with the enterprise, logical/secure designs to meet defined solution requirements, and monitoring/measuring that validates the digital experience and business value. The Network Architect will make recommendations for emerging technologies and review designs to ensure that business and technical requirements and monitoring objectives are met. The Network Architect collaborates with the network team and other IT stakeholder groups to propose security, scalability, availability, supportability, and cost improvements, and provides technical guidance across the organization from strategic decision making to project planning.

Responsibilities

Contributes to the strategic design and architecture of the firm's data network environment.

Contributes to the design, deployment, and maintenance of network systems and components including routers, switches, internet services, WAN, wireless networks, VPNs, firewalls, video networks, VoIP infrastructure, security, and performance monitoring systems.

Participate in physical build planning and design for new spaces. Scope, design, plan, oversee and test inter-rack and station cabling for office, MDF/IDF and datacenter builds and refreshes.

Configure networks to ensure smooth and reliable operation to fulfill business objectives and processes.

Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend purchases or enhancements of network hardware and software.

Recommend performance standards, processes, policies, and procedures.

Provide senior level technical support for network elements and systems.

Design and implement network monitoring and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.

Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near and long-term network capacity needs.

Create and maintain documentation related to network architecture and configuration.

Ensure knowledge transfer for new systems.

Coordinate with other firm members for business continuity and disaster recovery programs.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

7+ years of experience in the network field

Proven experience with planning, installing and managing networks including LAN, WAN, SDWAN, firewalls, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, IPS/IDS, and related infrastructure

Azure networking solutions including Virtual Network Peering, VPN Gateway, and ExpressRoute

Familiarity with IaC (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, ARM, Chef)

Familiarity with identity and security technologies (EntraID, AD, LDAP, PKI, SAML, OAUTH, SSO)

Network monitoring tools (e.g., OpenView, Solarwinds, Splunk, Nagios-based tools) and general network management best practices

Strong hands-on knowledge of LAN/WAN/MAN protocols and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP, QoS, VPN, DNS, DHCP, SNMP)

Strong working knowledge of Cisco routers and switches (Nexus, Catalyst, ISR)

Experience with fiber optic cabling and patching

DNS management (A, CNAME, TXT, SRV, NS, PTR) and DNS security practices (DMARC, DKIM, SPF)

DevOps experience and automation scripting

Data Center, server room and IDF design, cabling layout, UPS management and environmental monitoring

Certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CCDE, CCDA, CCSP (preferred)

Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Compensation And Total Rewards Package Ropes & Gray offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package, including health and well-being benefits, personal and professional development, and career growth opportunities. The anticipated pay range is provided below and reflects a starting salary range at the time of posting. This role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. Actual offer will be determined based on qualifications, experience, location, and internal equity.

Boston: $123,200 - $187,950

New York: $129,100 - $196,900

Working Conditions This position requires hybrid on-site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for business continuity, professional development, and collaboration. Normal office environment; travel to firm sites and vendor conferences may be required.
