HOW WILL YOU HELP DRIVE THE FUTURE OF NATURAL GAS? The IT Technical Architect (Operational Technologies) is a strategic role providing technical and functional expertise in the implementation of operational systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Gas Distribution, and Meter Measurement systems in use by Gas Operations. The Architect will combine deep understanding and experience of shaping functional and technical solutions associated with maximizing the value of the physical assets of the natural gas division. This role requires a deep understanding of how to leverage technology to maximize the value and optimize the lifecycle performance of our Natural Gas Operations-related assets, from compliance to maintenance and daily operations.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Bachelor’s degree in Information/Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems or equivalent discipline from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 8 years of direct work experience performing the Duties & Responsibilities of this position or related duties.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in any combination of SCADA, Meter Measurement, Distribution Systems, and Network Infrastructure.
Deep expertise in SCADA platforms, industrial communications protocols (e.g., Modbus), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) programming concepts, and industrial networking.
Deep technical knowledge in database design development, including SQL, data modeling, and familiarity with DBMS (e.g., SSMS).
Ability to champion a clear vision for SCADA, Meter Measurement Systems, and Gas Distribution Systems.
Ability to lead the design and implementation of SCADA systems, including RTUs, HMI, and communications protocols.
In-depth expertise of SCADA architecture, including redundancy, failover, and high-availability designs.
Ability to evaluate existing infrastructure and systems to identify gaps and recommend optimal solutions for seamless integration with other systems.
Implement and maintain SCADA system security measures, adhering to industry cybersecurity standards (ISA-99/IEC 62443) and regulatory TSA requirements.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for SCADA systems.
Strong collaborative skills with ability to interact with business partners, IT team members and senior management.
Develops comprehensive documentation for SCADA systems, including integration roadmaps and configuration plans.
Stays current with IT industry trends and emerging technologies; leads application of new technologies.
Expert verbal, written, organizational, analytical and presentation skills. Strong leadership and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams in support of business process analysis and educate others in proper tool usage.
Understanding of project plans and ability to clearly articulate roles, goals, and timelines; capable of assessing proposed project plans to meet needs.
Drives continuous process improvement for SDLC, maintenance, application support, and IT architecture.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable for the overall end-to-end technical design of SCADA systems. Ensure requirements are translated into solutions and provide architectural assurance by overseeing planning, design, integration, and development for OT systems. Collaborates with Enterprise Architects and other Solution Architects to guide design decisions.
Lead and mentor technical teams, guiding SCADA system design, implementation, and improvements.
Interface with business users and IT to support future initiatives. Contribute to short and long-range roadmap planning for SCADA, Gas Distribution, and Meter Measurement. Facilitate communication between IT, business, vendors and consultants. Build consensus and educate staff on recommended solutions.
Drive impact assessments for major change requests and provide input to the Program Management Team and governance for scope changes and overall solution.
Create and maintain architectural artifacts, policies, standards and procedures for information systems architecture (data, applications, technology) including development practices and system architecture.

Professional certification in related disciplines (preferred).
Strong working knowledge of Aveva SCADA solutions.
Experience in Natural Gas utilities OT and mobile solutions.
Experience with RTUs, HMIs, and database historians.

Experience with patch management for OT systems.
Experience with reporting tools such as Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, Crystal Reports.
Strong knowledge of database design and management.

TEAM STRUCTURE
Direct Supervision : Responsible for resource management, staff augmentation, and vendor relationships; may serve as a backup to the Manager.
Indirect Supervision : Systems Analysts for OT systems; supervisory responsibility for assigned analysts for the project duration.
Key Internal : Stakeholders of Gas Operations systems (SCADA, Meter Measurement, AMI).
Key External : Vendors such as Aveva, Infor, Itron, System Integrators, Contractors, Customers, Vendors.
