Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer for the SkillBridge program. This internship-like program targets transitioning service members and provides an on-site, entry to mid-level software engineering experience for up to 180 days during the last 6 months of service. Note: SkillBridge participants are not compensated by Northrop Grumman and continue to receive military pay and benefits. Location: Northridge, CA. Travel: Yes, up to 10% of the time. Responsibilities For This Internship Position Are: Develop and implement software for embedded devices and systems based on requirements. Design, develop, code, test and debug system software. Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle in an agile environment. Software requirements verification and validation. DoD SkillBridge Eligibility
Has served at least 180 days on active duty Is within 12 months of separation or retirement Will receive an honorable discharge Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months Received Unit Commander written authorization and approval to participate prior to start of internship Basic qualifications for Principal Embedded Software Engineer (T03)
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field with 5 years of Computer/Software Engineering experience, or Master’s with 3 years Self-starter and able to operate in a team environment Experience with one or more languages: C/C++, Java, Python, C# Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug, maintenance Experience in embedded software development Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance; U.S. citizenship required At least 1 year of experience in an Agile team Meets DoD SkillBridge qualifications per DoD 1322.29 Basic qualifications for Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer (T04)
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field with 8 years of experience, or Master’s with 6 years Self-starter and team-oriented Experience with one or more languages: C/C++, Java, Python, C# Experience with full software lifecycle Experience in embedded software development Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance; U.S. citizenship required At least 1 year of experience in an Agile team Meets DoD SkillBridge qualifications per DoD 1322.29 Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Git or similar version control Embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking RTOS Embedded C++ optimization and tools like VxWorks Hands-on hardware integration and testing Debugging complex integrated applications or test setups Experience with Atlassian tools: JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, SonarQube Active Secret Clearance Salary ranges and benefits are program-specific.
