Microchips Frequency and Timing Systems is a world leader in precise time solutions and sets the world's standard for time. The company generates, distributes, and applies precise time for the communications, aerospace/defense, IT infrastructure, and metrology industries. Frequency and Timing Systems is expanding new contracts in the areas of digital signal processing, satellite communications, airborne timing and navigation systems. Microchips Government Systems group is seeking a Senior Engineer II - Software Platform to contribute to R&D programs in the field of timing and communications systems. This is a hands-on technical position located in Boulder, Colorado. Were looking for a skilled and detail-focused engineer with a strong background in product build to join our team. This role is critical to the long-term health and security of our product, ensuring that our operating system remains up to date, secure, and maintainable. You will be responsible for managing OS-level updates, addressing CVEs, and driving automation in our build and release processes. The successful candidate must be able to work independently within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve technical objectives. Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar degree from an accredited university and 7-8 years of professional software engineering experience Own and manage the process for updating the Red Hat Linux operating system used in our products. Track and integrate upstream patches, including critical CVE/security fixes. Collaborate with product and security teams to evaluate and respond to OS-level vulnerabilities. Automate OS builds and testing processes using scripting or CI/CD tools. Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar). Maintain documentation for OS update processes and compliance requirements. Perform integration testing to validate new OS builds on target hardware. Comfortable debugging low-level system issues and working closely with hardware teams. Troubleshoot system-level issues across build, boot, and runtime phases. Solid understanding of Linux networking (interfaces, routing, firewalls, tools like ip, netstat, tcpdump). Proficiency with distributed source control libraries and workflows. US citizenship Active TS/SCI clearance or ability to obtain one Additional Desired Qualifications
Linux build experience with Yocto Project (BitBake, layers, recipes, meta-layers, etc.). Knowledge of kernel configuration, device trees, and bootloaders (e.g., U-Boot). Experience with secure boot and device provisioning. Additional Information
Physical Requirements: This role involves regular use of hands, extended computer use, standing, walking, and lifting up to 30 lbs. Vision requirements include close and vision for reviewing detailed graphics and schematics.
