SCSO is an Equal Opportunity Employer Job Description The Deputy Pilot will have as his/her primary duty the prudent and safe operation of the agency helicopter on both scheduled and on-call missions. Additionally, the Deputy Pilot will assist the Assistant Chief Pilot as directed in all assigned duties. General Description of Duties

Complete assignment as directed; maintain work areas; knowledge of general orders. Respond to tactical situations; pursue fleeing perps/suspects/felons; conduct marijuana eradication activities. Triage calls; conduct routine air patrol; assess damages to structures, roads, and communications infrastructure during or after disaster situations. Search for lost or missing persons; conduct surveillance of individuals/groups/structures/vehicles; maintain aircraft logbooks. Provide assistance to patrol deputies, detectives, and other units; prepare daily record of law enforcement activities; pursue vehicles/watercraft; testify at trials, hearings, grand juries or depositions. Minimum Requirements Associates degree from an accredited institution Minimum 4 years' pilot experience, or four years in a sequential position. Experience must be active full-time and occurred within the three (3) years prior to application with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Florida LE Certification OR other state LE Certification with ability to enroll in the Florida EOT program upon selection to obtain FL LE Certification. Commercial Helicopter Certificate (with instrument rating). 1000 Hours Helicopter Total Time 500 Hours Turbine Time (Bell 407/429 preferred) Class II Flight Physical (or ability to obtain) Preferred: 1500 Hours Total Time (Helicopter), Bell 407/429 Factory School/Experience, Night Vision Goggle, Fire Suppression, Search and Rescue, Hoist or External Cargo Operations Experience. Additional Information Long Term Salary Cap $114,398.00; Annual Work Hours 2184. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office requires all employees to have either an associates degree, 60 equivalent hours from an accredited college or university or the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. Sworn Law Enforcement and Corrections Deputies must achieve a minimum passing score of Verbal 267 and Quantitative 241. Civilians must achieve Verbal 248 and Quantitative 241. Local institution to administer the Wonderlic: Suncoast Technical College. Fee $40. Hours of operations: Monday–Thursday 7:30am–3:00pm; Friday 7:30am–2:00pm. Testing is scheduled by appointment only. If you are out of town, please contact your local technical institute. A complete report of passing scores must be submitted to the SCSO.
