The National Association for Business Economics (NABE) seeks a strong communicator with a background or interest in economics to join its team as
Associate Director, Economic Communications and Programs . This is an ideal opportunity for someone with some background or education in economics and impeccable writing and editing skills who is seeking to build experience in communications and marketing. The Associate Director will serve as NABE’s lead writer and editor across all communications platforms, crafting compelling copy for emails, newsletters, and social media to promote NABE’s programs—including six annual conferences, 15+ educational offerings, and frequent webinars and podcasts. This person will often serve as the final reviewer before content is published and will collaborate with staff on the planning and execution of these activities. Strong time management, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines—driven by a proactive mindset and a sense of ownership—are essential for success in this role. The position is designed with growth in mind. Over time, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of NABE’s communications calendar and contribute to strategic planning across email, web, and social media channels. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Economic Programs and Communications and will work closely with a small, collaborative staff. This position is based in Washington, D.C., with a flexible hybrid schedule (typically two in-office days per week). With a staff of six, NABE organizes national conferences, conducts influential surveys, and delivers continuing education and certification programs to help its members remain at the forefront of the profession. Key Responsibilities
Writing and Editing Draft and edit high-quality written content, including newsletters, event promotions, social media posts, and website updates Serve as the final set of eyes on communications before external distribution Ensure all content is clear, professional, and consistent with NABE’s voice and standards Marketing and Digital Outreach Assist in the development and execution of marketing strategies to promote NABE’s events, surveys, podcasts, webinars, and educational offerings Manage and update content on NABE’s website using the content management system (CMS) Support NABE’s social media presence, particularly on LinkedIn and X Program Support and Execution Coordinate with planning committees and staff to ensure clear and timely event communications Assist in the planning and delivery of NABE conferences, webinars, and other programs Prioritize competing tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Travel 2–3 times per year to support NABE events As experience grows, the Associate Director will have the opportunity to manage NABE’s communications calendar, contribute to messaging strategy, and coordinate content across channels Training and mentorship will be provided to support this professional development Ideal Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field 2–5 years of professional experience Impeccable writing and editing skills—able to produce polished, error-free content with minimal supervision Training or strong interest in economics Strong storytelling ability—able to generate interest and engagement in NABE offerings Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines consistently Strong attention to detail and editorial accuracy Experience or strong interest in economics, public policy, or related fields Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute effectively within a small team environment Bonus Points
Experience supporting public communications for research, economic, or policy-focused organizations Familiarity with email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact) and CMS tools Prior work experience in a nonprofit or membership-based organization Exposure to NABE events, programs, or economic surveys Salary and Benefits
Salary range $65,000-$85,000 depending on qualifications and experience Health and dental insurance 401(k) with generous employer contributions after three months Paid time off (PTO), sick leave, and holidays Monthly transit and cell phone subsidies Hybrid work schedule (currently two days in office, three days remote) Employment details
