Leopardo Construction is looking for a Project Engineer to join our busy Tenant Interiors team. The Project Engineer role is ideal for candidates looking to learn and build their career in a fast-paced environment. Project Engineers have the opportunity to work on exciting projects while gaining exposure to all facets of the construction industry.
Summary As a member of the project management team, the Project Engineer is responsible for assisting and supporting Estimating, Project Management and Field Operations Departments in planning, directing and coordinating designated project activities to ensure all goals and objectives are met. This role will learn all facets of the construction process to allow progression to the position of estimator, project manager, or superintendent. The Project Engineer will participate in Leopardo’s structured training, which includes completion of the assigned rotational learning plans, to gain a clear understanding of Company policies, procedures, philosophies, and the overall construction process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management Support
– assist project management staff to monitor and achieve project goals including overhead, profit, general conditions, self-performed trades, client satisfaction and project profitability. Responsibilities include:
Monitor and achieve goals related to cost, schedule and scope.
Track master construction schedule, critical dates, and provide updates.
Obtain permits, insurance and bonds.
Review and process submittals, shop drawings and RFIs; maintain logs.
Coordinate pre-, weekly and post-construction meetings; prepare minutes and track action items; monitor MBE/WBE compliance.
Negotiate with and procure subcontractors and suppliers; generate subcontracts and purchase orders; review monthly applications for payment.
Generate and maintain project documentation for BIM; conduct model mediation/clash detection.
Review LEED deliverables for LEED-seeking projects.
Determine subcontractor work completed and generate monthly billings; prepare change order documentation and maintain change order log.
Prepare project closeout documentation, as-built drawings, warranty letters, O&M manuals, and other closeout items.
Estimating Support
– assist estimating staff to prepare comprehensive, accurate cost estimates and support bid opportunities. Responsibilities include:
Develop bid strategies and budgets; review bid documents for quantity take-offs.
Conduct jobsite walkthroughs to verify field conditions.
Identify qualified subcontract bidders and manage bid coverage.
Receive and analyze subcontractor bids and develop owner budgets; participate in client presentations when required.
Field Operations Support
– assist field operations staff to achieve project goals, maintain safety, quality, and schedule. Responsibilities include:
Procure materials and maintain a two-week look-ahead schedule; document daily activities.
Assist in safety planning and site inspections; support quality control and documentation.
Assist in coordination meetings and ensure proper onsite documentation for LEED coordination and approvals.
Support self-performed trades and monitor cost versus budget.
Manage punch lists and subcontractor accountability; maintain payroll-related records as required.
Education / Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in construction, engineering or architecture related fields; or equivalent training and related experience.
Prior industry experience as a Project Engineer or Intern preferred; field and/or estimating experience is a plus.
Understanding of basic construction technologies, scheduling software, budgeting, and the ability to read blueprints.
Awareness of project management and accounting software; Viewpoint is a plus.
