Position Overview
Kiewit Power Engineers has an opening for a Senior Overhead Transmission Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. You will support transmission and distribution projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV in both engineering detailed design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) projects for clients across the country. You will participate in the project execution process by performing innovative design engineering, reviewing final design deliverables, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, and mitigating risk to ensure safe construction operations.
Location
This position is based out of one of our offices in Portland, OR. Relocation is available for well-qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
Lead a collaborative team to understand client needs, prepare deliverables, and provide project updates.
Establish design criteria based on industry, company, and/or client standards.
Create and review computer models of overhead electric transmission lines and structures in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS TOWER.
Assemble and review drawings, specifications, and design criteria for procurement of tubular steel structures, lattice towers, and transmission line hardware. Review vendor calculations and drawings for compliance.
Develop and review construction packages for internal crews and client contractors, including plan & profiles, staking sheets, stringing tables, bill of materials, structure details, phasing drawings, foundation drawings, and installation specifications.
Provide design oversight and quality reviews for complex drawing packages ensuring client and code requirements are met.
Drive a culture of design excellence and continuous improvement.
Advise team on interpretation and proper application of codes and standards.
Ensure project contract compliance, quantities, and technical deliverable accuracy.
Present to management, analyze PLS-CADD reports, formulate design aids, and draft reports using Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Power BI, and Yammer).
Communicate resource needs and ensure project schedules and budgets are maintained.
Visit construction sites, meet in client offices, and travel to supplier facilities as required by projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
At least 10 years of experience designing and engineering transmission lines between 69kV and 500kV (preferred).
Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and PLS TOWER.
Knowledge of MFAD, LPILE, and geotechnical recommendations for foundation design (preferred).
Knowledge of client and industry standards including NESC, ASCE, IEEE, and RUS.
Experience leading teams and projects; experience managing direct reports including timesheets, performance appraisals, and resource planning (preferred).
