Executive Underwriter/Team Lead, Life Sciences. This role combines technical underwriting expertise with leadership responsibilities, overseeing a portfolio of life sciences accounts while mentoring and guiding a team of underwriters. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of life sciences risks and coverages, strong broker relationships, and proven leadership skills to drive profitability, growth, and team development.
Salary and Benefits
$120,000 to $190,000+/year
Annual bonus target

Responsibilities
Underwrite and manage a portfolio of life sciences business, including products liability, clinical trials, errors & omissions, and related exposures.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
Establish and execute underwriting strategies that align with profitability and growth objectives.
Maintain and expand strong relationships with brokers, clients, and industry partners.
Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing on complex and high-value accounts.
Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and risk engineering teams to deliver tailored client solutions.
Monitor industry and regulatory trends to anticipate emerging risks and adapt underwriting approach accordingly.
Represent the company at industry events, client meetings, and broker engagements as a market leader in life sciences underwriting.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or industry designation (CPCU, RPLU, ARM, etc.) preferred.
5+ years of underwriting experience with significant expertise in life sciences risks.
Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to mentor and guide underwriting staff.
Strong knowledge of products liability, clinical trials, and specialized life sciences coverages.
Established broker and client relationships within the life sciences market.
Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
Strategic mindset with proven ability to balance growth, profitability, and portfolio management.
