Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary R&D team developing a next-generation robotic surgical platform. Multiple roles open across numerous areas of mechanical design specialty ranging from early stage career to well tenured senior staff. Critical needs surrounding the entire platform from designing precision mechanical components, assemblies, general CAD, wire harnessing, cabling, static and dynamic modeling. Ideally seeking experience with articulating mechanisms that may integrate seamlessly into a complex electromechanical system used in minimally invasive surgery. Responsibilities

Design, develop, and refine mechanical subsystems for a robotic surgical platform, including robotic arms, end-effectors, drive mechanisms, and disposable instruments. Generate detailed 3D CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent, applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5. Conduct tolerance stack-ups, FEA (e.g., using Ansys or Abaqus), and DFM/DFA analysis to ensure robust performance and manufacturability. Collaborate closely with electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure design integration and functional alignment. Support rapid prototyping, bench testing, and iterative design processes to evaluate and optimize mechanical solutions. Participate in design reviews, verification and validation (V&V) activities, and documentation for regulatory submissions (e.g., FDA Class II/III). Ensure compliance with relevant standards including ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and FDA 21 CFR Part 820. Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 3–7 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in medical devices, surgical robotics, or complex electromechanical systems. Proficient in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent), FEA tools, and tolerance analysis methods. Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, material selection, and design for manufacturability (DFM). Excellent problem-solving skills, with hands-on experience in prototyping and test fixture development. Experience developing Class II/III medical devices under a quality system (ISO 13485 or FDA QSR). Familiarity with actuator selection, transmission design, and motion control integration.
