Overview
NewsNation is seeking a focused, driven, and enterprising journalist to join our Washington, DC bureau as a news producer helping to coordinate daily coverage of the federal government, including the White House and Congress, as well as general news in the region and elsewhere. The producer will partner with network correspondents to provide coverage across platforms for NewsNation. The position is based at our Washington, DC bureau. Responsibilities
Be able to conduct accurate, timely, and well-sourced research Be able to come up with timely, and unique story and guest ideas Be able to fully report stories emanating from briefings, news conferences, events, and statements Demonstrated ability to tailor reporting and storytelling to help explain complex topics to audiences on broadcast and digital platforms Demonstrated ability to organize field shoots, interviews, and live shots managing planning and logistics for the field team Be able to gather elements from affiliates, agencies, social media, etc. Be able to help build out live hits, segments, and packages including well-written broadcast scripts Be an effective conduit between the field team, the show team, and the assignment desk clearly communicating needs and expectations Be proactive about solving problems efficiently and effectively Cultivate sources which help cover up to the minute developments and break news from both houses of Congress Assist bureau management in daily and long-term scheduling of personnel and editorial planning Requirements & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree required At least five years broadcast or digital production experience Background in reporting, research and writing Must be willing to work overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, often with short notice Must be willing to work in Washington, DC but travel as needed domestically and internationally Understand importance of social media and social newsgathering Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all network personnel Operate newsroom computer systems Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 commensurate with experience Benefits: Our comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees includes, but not limited to, medical (with multiple plan options), dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) with company matching contributions, Paid Parental leave, life insurance and more. Part time employees are eligible for 401(k) and any local/state leave plans. Union positions are subject to the benefits outlined in their Collective Bargaining Agreement.
