Senior Process Engineer
The Senior Process Engineer will help lead the design, development, and optimization of surface facilities across Fervo's portfolio of geothermal energy developments. This role will be responsible for providing input into projects' assessments and initiation. The Process Engineer will participate in multidiscipline teams to support early phase project development as well as brownfield project optimization efforts and will liaise with maintenance, operations, and subsurface teams. This position will report directly to our Senior Process Engineer.
Responsibilities
Executing design and specification of Organic Rankine Cycle geothermal power plant facilities, existing production facility upgrades, pipelines, gathering systems and well-pads
Develop design deliverables such as: process design basis, process-control documents, process simulations, material balances, PFDs (process flow diagrams), P&IDs (piping & instrumentation diagrams), equipment lists and data sheets, cause & effect documentation, and engineering calculations (hydraulics, initial equipment sizing, etc.)
Engaging and maintaining relationships with major equipment suppliers to optimize facility design and researching better technologies with innovation mindset
Acting as the primary process lead during negotiations of major surface facility equipment supply contracts
Identifying continuous improvement opportunities and executing ongoing continuous improvement measures to improve the safety and O&M of the facility
Lead and / or participate in Risk Assessments, PHA, and Incident Investigations / Learning Teams
Provide direct and impartial feedback to ensure corporate and industry code compliance
Support Project Teams and Operations in the commissioning, performance testing and start-up of new / modified facilities
Manage and interpret data and results from multiple projects
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical or Mechanical)
10+ years of process engineering experience
Demonstrated experience with process operations
Experience with Control Philosophy / Narrative design (must have)
Ability to utilize critical software for plant monitoring and modeling (such as Aspen, HYSYS, Pro II, ProMax, ProTreat, etc.), as well as for project design, execution, and management
Ability to interpret engineering drawings (P&ID, PFD, HMB, One-Lines, well diagrams, etc.)
A working knowledge of process, plant and equipment applicable codes and standards
Effective written and verbal presentation and communication skills
Ability to lead engineering efforts and work effectively in cross-functional teams
Experience with identification and evaluation of new technologies and their incorporation into facility projects
Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel to various field locations and Fervo office locations up to 25% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
Geothermal facilities experience; Power-Generation facilities experience
Expertise with a wide range of renewable energy types; Familiarity with subsurface science and drilling
Trained in / experienced in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, Agile)
Experience with pipeline and gathering facility design
5+ years of experience in technical areas related to facilities, pipeline, pump selection, design
Location Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Oakland, CA, Golden, CO, Reno, NV, and Salt Lake City, UT. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston or Reno offices will be required. Travel is required for this position.
