$121,200.00/yr - $165,375.00/yr Responsibilities
Oversees the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements (including footnotes) for Horizon Mutual Holdings, Inc. and all of its subsidiaries, including benefit plans, ensuring compliance with GAAP and SAP and regulatory requirements of the SEC, NAIC, DOBI and BCBSA. Drafts the Management’s Discussion and Analysis for all filings. Researches complex transactions and initiatives related to Horizon’s startup companies (Novawell) and joint ventures (Braven and others), organizational restructuring, M&A, revenue and other topics; defends the stance to the SEC, NAIC, DOBI and external auditors. Data mining to create more accurate reporting of financial statements and reduce audit risk. Benchmarking and utilizing key financial indicators and analytics to identify areas for review and adjustments to current reporting processes. Oversees internal controls as they pertain to financial reporting and accounting to reduce risk and improve reliability of controls. Performs variance analysis using financial and statistical data to support all financial reporting for internal and external purposes. Drafts position papers on accounting issues and principles, communicates proper accounting treatment to the Finance Department, and develops required disclosures for the financial statements (GAAP, SAP, SEC, NAIC, DOBI, BCBSA). Coordinates the company’s pension and 401(k) audits. Oversees the development, documentation and recording of SG&A cost allocations between companies and market segments to comply with GAAP and SAP. Directs staff to ensure client satisfaction and service delivery; develops and monitors goals; conducts annual performance reviews and administers salaries; directs staffing, development, and training. Ensures staff meets regulatory requirements and adheres to best practices, professional standards, internal policies, and procedures. Maintains effective internal controls over processes and transactions, including completeness and accuracy of financial information, regulatory compliance, and efficiency of operations. Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university (preferred). Master’s degree in business administration, accounting or finance (a plus). Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in technical accounting, financial reporting, general accounting, financial analysis, and related functions (preferably within a public company and/or the health insurance industry). Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience. CPA preferred. Skills and Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with SAP preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with large data sets to create data-driven findings and reporting. Analytical thinking to research and resolve problems and communicate findings; implement resolutions through collaboration. Very strong attention to detail and granular financial reporting. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work; work independently with sound business judgment. Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel and Access) and knowledge of general ledger systems and financial auditing. Location and eligibility

Salary Range:
$121,200 - $165,375 This compensation range is specific to the job level and considers factors such as education, experience, licensure, certifications, location, and internal equity.
