Director of Communications, Marian High School Full-Time, Full Calendar Year, On Site Role
About Marian Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills is a Catholic, college preparatory school for young women sponsored by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our mission is to ensure, within a Christian environment, an excellent education built on a strong academic curriculum, enabling young women to value human diversity and live responsible lives of leadership and action based on gospel values.
Position Summary The Director of Communications leads Marian’s strategic marketing and communications efforts to advance the school’s mission, strengthen its brand, and engage prospective families, alumnae, donors, and the wider community. Reporting to the President and supervising the Communications Specialist (responsible for videography and social media), this position oversees all external communications and supports internal messaging to ensure consistency, clarity, and impact across all channels.
Key Responsibilities Strategy & Brand Management
Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and marketing plan aligned with admission, advancement, and community engagement goals.
Serve as brand ambassador, ensuring a consistent voice, tone, and visual identity.
Lead content planning, public relations, media outreach, and crisis communication as needed.
Track and analyze performance metrics to guide strategy.
Content Creation & Storytelling
Write, edit, and design content for publications, website, email, social media, and promotional pieces.
Lead production of the Marian Monitor, Impact Report, Community News monthly email, and fundraising materials.
Capture and curate photography and video of school life; oversee digital asset management.
Provide messaging support for leadership.
Digital Strategy
Manage Marian’s website, including updates, SEO, and analytics.
Oversee social media strategy and execution across platforms.
Maintain constituent data in Finalsite and create targeted communications groups.
Admission & Advancement Marketing
Lead Admission campaigns to attract prospective families, including digital ads, drip marketing, and promotional materials.
Proof and provide final edits of our Admission viewbook generated by our Admission Coordinator.
Collaborate with Advancement on multi-channel fundraising and stewardship campaigns.
Lead marketing efforts for major events such as Marian Benefit Evening and Day of Giving.
Internal Communications & Collaboration
Train staff on Finalsite tools for newsletters and portals.
Serve as communications liaison across departments, ensuring alignment and quality.
Supervise the Communications Specialist and manage external vendors and freelancers.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in communications/marketing, preferably in education or nonprofit.
Knowledge of and/or experience working in a Catholic community is beneficial
Strong skills in writing, storytelling, graphic design, and content creation (photography/video a plus).
Proficiency with CMS platforms (Finalsite preferred), SEO, and email marketing systems.
Design skills in Canva; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience with analytics tools (Google Analytics 4, UTM parameters).
Advanced Microsoft 365 skills, with project management experience.
Personal Attributes

Strategic thinker with strong execution skills.
Organized, collaborative, and adaptable.
Willing to work occasional evenings/weekends for event coverage.
