Overview
The Senior Payroll Specialist assumes the critical role of processing, managing, and maintaining all aspects related to paying employees within the organization. This role is responsible for reviewing timesheets and time entries, addressing discrepancies, reviewing benefits, tax filings, tax registration process, tax withholdings for new hires, calculating unused vacation accruals for separating employees and annual increases including calculating retroactive wages. Job Responsibilities
Collect, audit, and review the accuracy of timecards and time entries each pay period. Enter, maintain, and/or process employee information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information. Timely preparation and submission of retirement reporting and payments, including 403(B)/401(K). Ensure proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions. Keep track of leave time, such as PTO, personal, and sick leave, for employees. Issue, or reissue, physical or replacement checks, or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge. Provide PTO and overtime reports to upper management. Provide commission reports to upper management. Execute post-payroll backup reports. Perform year-end responsibilities including audit preparation, vehicle expenses, group term life, taxable fringe benefits, and cost of health care coverage, W-2s, and 1095s. Assist with recording employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations, to maintain and update payroll records. Prepare scheduled reports for upper management, finance department, etc., upon request. Investigate, recommend, and implement improvements to the payroll process. Keeps abreast of Federal and State laws as well as other relevant information. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains confidentiality in all payroll and employee matters. Required Skills/Abilities
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software. Knowledgeable in benefits administration, FSA, HSA, health, deductions, etc. Effective teamwork skills Excellent written and oral communication skills. Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) strongly preferred. 5-7 years previous payroll experience required. Knowledge of federal and state statutes and regulations pertaining to payroll and tax reporting - certified payroll/prevailing wage is a plus. Previous experience in a construction environment is a plus. Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. This role is offering hourly non-exempt compensation between $30-35 hourly with excellent benefits, with health insurance coverage is available on day one of employment.
