Overview
The Director of Development is responsible for designing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive fundraising strategy to advance the mission of Hands In 4 Youth. This includes overseeing all aspects of individual giving (including major gifts and alumni), grants, corporate and foundation partnerships, and special events. The Director will manage relationships with key donors and prospects, guide development operations, and provide leadership for staff and volunteers involved in fundraising activities. Responsibilities Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes major gifts, alumni giving, annual campaigns, corporate and foundation support, planned giving, and special events. Partner with the CEO and board of directors to set revenue goals and monitor progress toward them. Provide strategic leadership for donor engagement, campaign planning, and development initiatives.
Major Gift & Donor Engagement
Personally manage a portfolio of 5075 major gift prospects and donors, including camp alumni, individuals, corporations, and foundations. Cultivate, solicit, and steward significant gifts ($10,000+) in collaboration with the CEO and board members. Ensure consistent and meaningful stewardship for donors at all levels.
Grant Development & Institutional Support
Oversee grant research, proposal writing, and reporting to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Identify new institutional funding opportunities and maintain strong relationships with funders.
Events & Campaigns
Provide leadership for major fundraising events and alumni engagement initiatives. Work with staff and volunteers to maximize event-based revenue and donor engagement. Support capital campaigns or other special initiatives as needed. Partner with the development committee and board of directors to expand fundraising capacity. Equip board members and volunteers with tools and strategies to be effective ambassadors and fundraisers.
Operations & Data Management
Oversee development operations, including donor database management, gift processing, and reporting. Ensure accurate tracking of donor activity, engagement, and progress toward revenue goals. Provide regular development reports to the CEO.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred. Minimum of 710 years of progressive fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in major gifts ($10,000+) and overall revenue growth. Experience managing staff, volunteers, or board committees in a fundraising context. Proven ability to design and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies. Strong grant writing and institutional fundraising experience. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Proficiency with donor databases/CRM systems. Passion for youth development and appreciation of the camp experience.
