The Machine Learning team designs and delivers innovative Machine Learning solutions as part of intelligent products on Amazon Web Services, Azure and Google Cloud using core cloud data science tools, MLOps components, and other big data related technologies. As a Director, you will be accountable for the overall quality and execution of projects across Machine Learning.
What You’ll Do
Accountable for the growth of the practice, including driving sales, recruiting, account management, consulting, and all operational aspects.
Practice Building – Drive growth of the Machine Learning discipline by participating in business development, oversight of delivery work, and thought leadership. Assemble best practices and develop case studies and other core deliverables to grow solution offerings.
Business Development – Relationship building with executive-level client stakeholders and expanding Slalom’s client portfolio. Guide business development activities, partnering with Slalom leadership to pursue new and existing client relationships.
Team & Individual Development – Lead by example to build a team of leaders and engineers, provide technical thought leadership in the ML space, and support recruiting and onboarding of new employees.
Engagement Management – Handle engagement risk, project economics including planning and budgeting, define deliverable content, and ensure consensus of proposed solutions from client leadership.
Cultivate a culture of collaboration through speaking at technical conferences, writing articles, and contributing to workshops.
Build trust in Slalom’s AI/ML leadership, highlighting industry expertise, client success stories, and unique market offerings.
Develop and share ML thought leadership and vision, internally and with clients.
Recommend and implement architecture to deploy ML pipelines and CI/CD processes at scale for challenging engagements.
Stay current with new tools, packages, and ML techniques to deliver the best client solutions.
Collaborate with Product Owners to apply Slalom’s Agile processes and lead projects in a client-facing role.
Support pre-sales conversations with client ML staff.
Collaborate with stakeholders across Slalom and client organizations to discuss project needs.
Ensure successful delivery outcomes for staffed teams; staff, lead, and mentor ML practitioners and engineers.
Share learnings with the wider Slalom ML Community and uphold Slalom’s values as a trusted partner to clients.
Willingness to travel up to 50% at peak times.
What You’ll Bring
Expertise in cloud-based engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Agile delivery.
Experience leading people, including mentorship for ML Engineers and Architects.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and grow existing client bases with organic business development.
Ability to shape and lead a product delivery team from architecture to inception.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for audiences at all levels, including client-facing.
Experience acting as a project manager and leading technical delivery teams.
Experience implementing ML solutions with two or more cloud frameworks (e.g., AWS Sagemaker, Azure ML Studio, Google Cloud Vertex AI).
Experience deploying ML models to production and developing models using Python.
Familiarity with Generative AI and foundation models (e.g., GPT-3/4, Gemini, Llama, etc.).
Experience with building computer vision models (preferred).
Ability to lead exploratory data analysis in new domains or data structures.
Familiarity with Agile delivery (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, XP, Lean).
Experience with MLOps pipelines or CI/CD implementations.
Two or more programming languages from Python, SQL, Java, C#, R, JavaScript, Go, Spark.

Compensation And Benefits Slalom invests in benefits that include meaningful time off, paid holidays, parental leave, 401(k) with match, a range of health/dental/vision coverage options, adoption and fertility assistance, and disability coverage. Additional benefits include a yearly $350 wellness reimbursement and discounts on home, auto, and pet insurance. For the Director position, base pay range is $161,000 to $281,000, with potential discretionary bonuses. Compensation varies by skills, experience, location, and other factors.
