Overview
Advanced Robotics Electrical Engineer, Frontier AI & Robotics — Join to apply for the Advanced Robotics Electrical Engineer, Frontier AI & Robotics role at Amazon. Responsibilities
Design and develop the full electrical system for advanced robotic platforms—including power distribution, sensing, compute, and communication infrastructure. Specify and design custom power electronics and power distribution boards to meet performance, thermal, and safety requirements. Architect and integrate the robot’s battery system, including protection circuitry, battery management, charging systems, and thermal considerations. Design and route all cabling and wire harnesses across the robotic platform, considering EMI, signal integrity, serviceability, and integration with mechanical structures. Define and implement wiring and electrical interfaces for sensors (e.g., lidar, stereo cameras, IMUs, tactile) and compute modules. Determine appropriate electrical and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, USB, MIPI) for reliable and efficient system operation. Work closely with mechanical engineers to co-design system layouts and routing paths for electrical components and harnesses. Design schematics and PCBs for custom electronics using Altium or equivalent tools; oversee layout, bring-up, and validation. Debug electrical issues across complex systems using lab tools and develop long-term fixes. Support lab-based builds and tests; create and refine test setups for system validation and sensor/power verification. Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering or a related field; 3+ years experience designing and integrating electrical systems in robotics or complex electromechanical platforms; strong background in power electronics, battery systems, and embedded electrical integration; experience with wire harness design, including connector selection, cable specing, and EMI mitigation strategies; proficient in PCB design (schematic capture and layout) using Altium or similar tools; familiarity with embedded systems and sensor integration; hands-on experience with lab tools for electrical debug and validation (oscilloscope, power supply, spectrum analyzer, etc.). Preferred Qualifications: Experience with high-DOF robotic systems; familiarity with high-speed data protocols (e.g., MIPI, PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet); exposure to embedded programming (e.g., C, Python, HDL) and firmware bring-up; understanding of thermal design and safety considerations in high-power robotic systems; experience working in environments with DFM/DFA constraints and production scaling; working knowledge of Linux command line and device configuration tools; familiarity with mechanical CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) for collaborative integration work. Team and Environment
About The Team: Frontier AI & Robotics (FAR) is the team at Amazon building the next generation of embodied intelligence. FAR drives the development and implementation of advanced AI models within Amazon’s operations that enable robots to see, reason, and act on the world around them, supporting a number of different warehouse automation tasks.
