Public Safety Communications Operations Division Manager

– Prince George's County, Maryland. This professional position is within the Office of Homeland Security (OHS), Public Safety Communications (PSC) Division, coordinating with the Division Chief and Deputy Director to ensure accurate, efficient emergency call processing and training aligned to State, industry and local standards. Public Safety Communications (PSC) handles County 9-1-1, emergency dispatch and radio system support; the role is a critical component in the daily operation of the 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center and the overall public safety continuum. About The Position

This professional position coordinates directly with the OHS/PSC Division Chief and OHS/PSC Deputy Director to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of public safety emergency call processing and personnel are trained to State, industry and local standards. The 9-1-1 Specialists are the public’s focal point of public safety response and carry responsibility for the safety of other first responders. Responsibilities

Coordinate the OHS/PSC Operations Division to ensure efficient and exceptional emergency communications services for the residents of Prince George’s County while maintaining quality support to interfacing public safety agencies. Ensure more than 1.5 million requests for service are processed within agency requirements, state mandates, and industry standards. Ensure more than 1.2 million emergency calls for service per year are dispatched within agency requirements, industry standards, and public safety agency guidelines. Enforce policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with legislatively mandated 9-1-1 Specialist training, education, and certification programs. Manage and oversee 9-1-1, Law Enforcement Dispatch, and Fire/EMS Dispatch and Training within OHS/PSC. Serve as project manager for complex operational and high-level technical projects; manage special projects as assigned by the Division Chief or Deputy Director. Assist with the development and maintenance of comprehensive operational policies and procedures for OHS/PSC Operations Division. Maintain liaison with other counties, states, and municipalities to coordinate related professional emergency communications services. Prepare and distribute regularly scheduled reports from electronic data systems. Ensure disciplinary investigations and actions are carried out in keeping with Personnel Law, the PCEA Collective Bargaining Agreement, and agency procedures. Represent the Deputy Director and Prince George’s County by actively participating in meetings and attending events with various civic, county, municipal, state, regional and federal organizations. Qualifications

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in governmental activities. Two (2) years of management-level work experience in a large, combined 9-1-1, Fire/EMS Dispatch and Law Enforcement Dispatch emergency communications center. Two (2) years of experience successfully overseeing and implementing complex 9-1-1 and dispatch projects and initiatives in a large, combined emergency communications center. Two (2) years of experience managing entry level, supervisory, and continuous education training programs for 9-1-1, law enforcement dispatch, fire/EMS dispatch, and cross-trained 9-1-1 Specialist personnel in a large, combined center. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at the time of application. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered; however, there is no equivalency for required management and supervisory experience. Preferred qualifications include extensive experience in a large 9-1-1/dispatch center, leadership roles in related committees, IAED certifications, and project management credentials. Additional Information Job Location: 17321 Melford Boulevard, Bowie, Maryland and 9-1-1/Dispatch Back-Up Center at 7915 Anchor Street, Landover, Maryland. Due to the public safety function and confidential nature of the work content, this position offers limited opportunity for telework. Conditions of Employment: must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, be able to work nights/weekends/rotating shifts, have all listed certifications at application, meet training and performance standards, wear agency-issued uniforms/equipment, and pass applicable pre-employment checks. This is an essential public safety position; personnel may be required to report during non-standard hours and emergencies. Selection Process
