The
Enterprise Safety and Security team
under
Global Governance
at Walmart designs and delivers platforms that enforce compliance, secure access, and enable scalable, intelligent solutions. The team partners with business, product, and technology teams to embed security across Walmart’s digital operations and is exploring AI/ML and agentic technologies to drive automation and adaptive security.
What you’ll do:
As a
Principal Engineer
at Walmart, you will act as a technical thought leader responsible for architecting, guiding, and delivering platform solutions across Walmart’s global enterprise. You will influence strategic technology decisions, mentor teams, and lead by example in building high-scale, intelligent systems that integrate AI/ML and agentic technologies.
Responsibilities
Define and drive the architectural vision for enterprise-scale platforms with emphasis on
AI/ML integration, agentic systems, and intelligent automation .
Guide engineering teams on best practices, technical design, and architectural decisions.
Architect resilient, cloud-native, full-stack solutions that deliver scale, performance, and security.
Collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and product teams to
operationalize AI/ML models , including
LLMs and deep learning .
Design and implement agent-based systems for proactive monitoring, triaging, and decision-making.
Influence roadmap decisions and technical strategy with senior leadership.
Ensure high standards for quality, security, and performance through design and code reviews.
Contribute to internal platform standards, reusable frameworks, and engineering playbooks.
Champion the use of open-source and emerging technologies aligned with Walmart’s innovation goals.
Partner with cross-functional teams globally to solve complex business problems with intelligent solutions.
Foster a culture of engineering excellence, mentor senior engineers, and participate in org-wide technical forums.
Qualifications
Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science/related field and 5 years of software engineering experience; Option 2: 7 years of software engineering experience.
Proven leadership in designing and delivering large-scale, distributed systems.
Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, system design, and cloud-native principles.
Backend development experience (Java, Scala, Spring Boot, Node.js, Microservices).
Full-stack experience with modern front-end frameworks (React.js, Angular, TypeScript).
Experience with RESTful and event-driven architectures; message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ); observability stacks (ELK, Grafana, Splunk).
Experience with SQL/NoSQL data stores, data pipelines, and cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS).
CI/CD, DevOps, containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes).
Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into platform services, from model inference to feedback loops.
Knowledge of LLMs (GPT, BERT), vector search, and embedding-based workflows is desirable.
Familiarity with agentic system design (autonomous agents, orchestration frameworks) is a plus.
Strong collaboration and communication skills; agile mindset with a focus on delivering outcomes at scale.
