Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

We are looking for Information Security Operations Engineer to take a lead role in developing and maintaining secure systems. Reporting to the Information Security Operations Manager, you will help the team monitor and maintain systems and applications, detect and respond to threats, resolve incidents, identify and eliminate vulnerabilities, and provide support to users throughout the diverse Fred Hutch technical community. You will also collaborate with Fred Hutch architecture, development, systems engineering and network engineering teams on complex and exciting technical projects to build secure solutions in the cloud and on-premises and raise our level of compliance with information security standards. Responsibilities
Actively participate in the Incident Response Program
Work closely with our MSSP to handle escalated security incidents
Manage the security monitoring platform and respond to network and endpoint security events
Understand security vulnerabilities and provide relevant guidance to other IT teams
Assist in analyzing and defining security requirements
Work closely with the IT Security and Compliance team toward the implementation and maintenance of all data security-related infrastructure and policy
Assist in identifying security risks by participating in security reviews, evaluations, and risk assessments
Provide support to Security Operations teams to solve technical challenges related to the implementation of security solutions
Assess Software as a Service (SaaS) products for security compliance
Develop and maintain security monitoring, logging, and auditing
Install required security patches and updates for a wide range of applications
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BS/BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or related field or the equivalent experience
3-5 years’ experience in information security
Experience in GRC tools such as Archer, MetricsSystem, BWise
Knowledge and experience with identity and cloud security technologies
Strong knowledge of SIEM and Splunk solutions
Knowledge in information security fundamentals (threat modeling, penetration testing, incident response, network security, physical security, etc.)
In-depth understanding of endpoint and network security for Windows and Linux
Preferred Qualifications
Strong technical expertise with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, Sentinel)
Experience with EDR tools such as CrowdStrike and MS Defender for Endpoint and network security solution
Proficiency in log analysis, threat hunting, and forensic investigation techniques
Experience with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to improve workflows and efficiency
In-depth understanding of identity, endpoint, network, and cloud security fundamentals
Familiarity with GRC platforms and security frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, or HIPAA
Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive improvements in security operations
Professional certifications such as CISSP, GCIA, GCIH, OSCP, or comparable
Familiarity with SOAR platforms and automation playbook design
Knowledge of data governance, insider threat management, or eDiscovery platforms
The annual base salary range for this position is from $95,888 to $143,811, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
