The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation’s largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets. The Sanitation Foundation is the official non-profit partner of NYC Sanitation (DSNY). We support DSNY’s mission to clean up the city and reduce waste in landfills. We are a fundraising organization that creates and runs programs and events that support the DSNY mission, funded by private sources, grants, corporate partnerships, and in-kind donations. The Foundation was founded in 2016 and has run programs engaging tens of thousands of New Yorkers, including NYC Big Spring Clean, Yankees Summer Cleanup Series, Adopt Your Spot, and NYC Trash Academy. One of our newest programs is “Don’t Do NYC Dirty,” a citywide PSA campaign launched this May. Role Overview
The AmeriCorps Member will support the Foundation’s day-to-day operations of digital communications and build out CRM and volunteer management platforms to grow participation in a cleaner, more sustainable NYC. The member will support the production and management of events, volunteer programs, trainings, and workshops, and will help grow the Foundation’s network of partners and program participants. Responsibilities
Communications
Develop newsletter content and support partner promotional kits for program outreach to community partners. Support the management and expansion of the Foundation’s Salesforce CRM. Manage the Foundation’s intake forms and email inbox. Provide support to the Community-led Cleanup Resources Program, including toolkit assembly/distribution, impact reporting, and data collection. Support the Volunteer Program Managers with event logistics and onsite volunteer management. Assist the volunteer team in migrating data and building out a new volunteer management software. Help create systems to identify and manage relationships with community partners. Support the management of digital learning software, analyze participant feedback, and ensure a positive participant experience. Support flagship programs (including NYC Trash Academy and the Big Spring Clean), including identifying new audiences and participants for events. Assist with production and management of other events, workshops, and trainings throughout the year. Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Graphic/web design, social media, or other digital communications experience Interest in project management with strong critical thinking skills Strong relationship management skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external partners Passion for environmental sustainability and curiosity to understand how things work and connect opportunities Required Skills for all NYC Civic Corps Members
Motivation to make a positive difference in New York City Willingness to learn and improve skills Ability to serve full-time for the program term (generally M-F 9 AM – 5 PM) Must complete at least 1,200 hours Must be 18+ and a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident High school diploma or equivalent Agree to and pass a criminal background check Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an accommodation NYC Civic Corps Member Benefits
Living stipend – Up to $24,500 (pre-tax; dispersed biweekly) Eli Segal Education Award – up to $5,176.50 (pre-tax) after completing the program and minimum hours Transportation benefits (Monthly MetroCard or OMNY) Healthcare eligibility Childcare assistance eligibility Monthly training and networking opportunities, professional development support Please note: Duties and responsibilities may change; changes will be communicated prior to the service year and approved by NYC Service.
