Blue Origin
Overview
Blue Origin is seeking to develop the Lunar Transportation system under the Lunar Permanence business unit. The role focuses on software architecture for the Blue Transporter spacecraft and ensuring the safety-critical, performant flight software supports mission objectives. You will work with stakeholders from different subsystems, including software and hardware, and guide the software team’s technical decisions with input from these stakeholders. You will draft, review, revise, and publish documents outlining decisions and a credible plan for implementing flight software that completes mission objectives. You will report to the Flight Software Integrated Product Lead and collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program.
You will contribute to developing the Lunar Transportation system to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence beyond Earth.
Responsibilities
Help produce and manage the software architecture for the Blue Transporter spacecraft and ensure mission success of the flight software.
Engage with leads and engineers of different subsystems (software and hardware) to understand needs and capabilities.
Guide the software team’s technical decisions and provide rationale based on stakeholder input.
Draft, review, revise, and publish documents outlining decisions and implementation plans for flight software.
Collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners as part of the HLS SLD program.
Communicate effectively to avoid over-promising and under-delivering.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, aeronautics, or related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a master’s/PhD with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Prior experience in spaceflight or other safety-critical industries.
Prior experience in embedded systems software engineering.
Proficiency in writing requirements and using Jama or a similar tool.
Experience with Jira or a similar activity management tool.
Excellent ownership and initiative; excellent written and spoken communication skills.
Desired
Experience with NPR 7150, DO-178 or other similar standards.
Experience with agile methodology.
Experience with C, C++, Rust, or other embedded programming languages.
Experience with cFS or other flight software frameworks.
Experience with orbital vehicles or in-space systems.
Compensation Base pay range: $135,679.00/yr - $207,218.55/yr. The compensation ranges shown reflect location-specific ranges where listed. CA applicants: $148,014.00 - $207,218.55; CO applicants: $135,679.00 - $189,950.25; WA applicants: $148,014.00 - $207,218.55.
