Overview
Senior Data Scientist will support the cutting-edge Data Science and Machine Learning Capability Center, part of the broader Information, Data, and Analytics (IDA) team. The role is central to a high-impact innovation initiative in partnership with NVIDIA, focused on scalable high-performance computing (HPC) and AI applications that directly support business-critical scientific computing tasks like seismic imaging. The position emphasizes end-to-end AI/ML solution development—from research prototypes to production-grade, full-stack deployments, leveraging deep learning, reinforcement learning, and multimodal large language models (LLMs). It involves scaling these solutions across Shell’s digital platforms using both on-premises HPC infrastructure and cloud capacity. Base pay range
$60.00/hr - $68.00/hr About the Project This role contributes to the GenAI and HPC Program, a multi-year, strategic investment designed to advance AI-driven scientific computing. The initiative emphasizes: On-premises and cloud-based HPC infrastructure. High-performance storage and specialized AI/ML toolsets. Building a dedicated AI/ML workforce to deliver transformative digital solutions. Key Responsibilities
Develop, deploy, and manage advanced AI/ML models with a focus on deep learning, reinforcement learning, and multimodal LLMs. Build and scale full-stack data science applications for Shell’s global platforms. Transition R&D prototypes into production-ready solutions with business impact. Collaborate with research, engineering, and external partners (e.g., NVIDIA) on GenAI tools and models. Ensure compliance with software quality, digital assurance, and Shell’s MCDS quality standards (e.g., code reviews, audits). Explore and evaluate new AI/ML opportunities while contributing to internal communities of excellence (CoEs, CoPs). Qualifications
Required: Ph.D. (preferred) or Master’s degree in STEM. 7+ years of experience in Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, and EDA. Advanced skills in Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, PyTorch/TensorFlow. Strong Python programming background. Knowledge of AI engineering, DevOps, Agile practices. Experience with cloud frameworks (Azure, AWS, GCP). Familiarity with HPC compute & storage, scientific data tools. Understanding of data governance, information management, and compliance. Experience in collaborating with external research organizations (e.g., NVIDIA). Seniority level
