Overview
The College of Southern Idaho (CSI) is a two-year public community college located in Twin Falls, Idaho. Founded in 1965, CSI serves over 9,000 students each year and offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs. The CSI Golden Eagles are widely recognized as one of the premier community college athletic programs in the nation, having won more than 100 Regional Championships and more than 20 National Championships. The College of Southern Idaho competes in the Scenic West Athletic Conference of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and currently has 12 intercollegiate sports programs. Under the direction of the CSI President, the CSI Athletic Director is operationally responsible for planning, developing, organizing, coordinating, and directing the entire College of Southern Idaho athletic program. The position of Athletic Director is an administrative role with the responsibility of ensuring that operations are consistent with college policies and procedures, NJCAA rules and regulations, and applicable state and federal laws. The Athletic Director operates within assigned budget resources and drives program improvements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee all aspects of athletic operations, including budgeting, staffing, facilities, scheduling, and travel. Work collaboratively with the President, other administrators, faculty, and staff to integrate athletics into the broader mission of the institution. Serve as a liaison between the institution, athletic conferences, and other organizations in coordination with the President. Manage and develop relationships with coaches, staff, student-athletes, parents, donors, and the community, including with community support groups tied to athletics (e.g., CSI Booster Club). Serve as a resource for the college community on issues of athletic programs and promotion, which may include presentations, resource development, committee membership, and other activities. Attend athletic conference meetings and other state, regional, and national meetings and events as required and approved. Oversee the coordination of travel planning for athletics, ensuring alignment with available budget resources. In coordination with the President, develop and implement external fundraising processes. Provide administrative oversight by attending all home games/events/competitions, or by delegating that responsibility as appropriate. Supervise and coordinate the use of all athletic facilities. Recommend, review, and coordinate community use of facilities. Coordinate with the CSI Physical Plant Department to ensure ongoing maintenance of program equipment and facilities. Facilitate athletic events while assuring that other college personnel and units are informed regarding time and resource allocations that could impact their areas. Oversee scheduling for all athletic teams, in coordination with the master academic calendar. This responsibility includes verifying an appropriate number of competitions in consideration of and in alignment with budget resources. Assist in the hiring, orienting, training, and mentoring of coaches. Provide evaluative feedback to coaches and staff as part of the institution’s regular personnel performance processes, and address personnel performance issues as needed. Resolve conflicts and issues that arise from athletic operations and competition. Oversee the recruiting of student-athletes. Foster a culture of academic success and personal development for student-athletes. Make recommendations to the Dean of Students and to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management on matters of student-athlete discipline. Ensure that coaches, staff, and student-athletes engage with appropriate student services for academic support. Manage coaches and communication staff to ensure that news releases are timely, that print and digital content is engaging and accurate, that social media accounts are leveraged in a dynamic manner, and that other promotional materials are current and engaging. This should be accomplished in cooperation with the CSI Office of Marketing and Communication. Ensure compliance with NJCAA regulations, Title IX requirements, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws. Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of Athletic Department operating procedures, in accordance with institutional procedures. Participate as a member of the CSI President’s Cabinet and present reports as needed to governance groups. Actively participate in institutional activities that fall outside of the Athletic Department, and ensure that Athletic Department coaches, staff, and student-athletes participate as well. Maintain currency on all items related to the role of Athletic Director. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a relevant area. Two or more years working in a higher education administration/leadership role with management experience. Proven success in leadership, management, and financial planning. Collegiate coaching or playing experience. Management experience in the athletic field. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Commitment to the academic success and well-being of student-athletes. Integrity, drive, and vision. Requires a driver's license and CPR certification. Preferred Qualifications Experience in intercollegiate athletics administration, preferably at the NJCAA level. Strong understanding of NJCAA regulations and compliance requirements. Experience with fundraising and securing financial resources.
