The Facilities Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, as well as the overall upkeep of the facility and its grounds. This role ensures operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and a safe, well-maintained environment.
Responsibilities
Perform inspections and repairs on HVAC systems including air handling units, exhaust fans, low-pressure boilers, condensing units, and evaporator units.
Manage service contracts for building and grounds maintenance, including landscaping, snow removal, overhead door and forklift repair, HVAC servicing, and waste management.
Schedule and oversee annual inspections of critical infrastructure such as boilers, water backflow prevention systems, and elevators.
Monitor and document daily warehouse temperatures to support SQF compliance.
Respond to alerts from building supervisory systems (e.g., fire protection, cooler temperature alarms) and conduct on-site assessments during emergencies.
Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) on HVAC equipment, including cleaning fan impellers and blades, replacing filters, and changing belts on exhaust fans.
Enhance and maintain PM schedules for HVAC systems and forklifts using the Limble CMMS platform, ensuring alignment with manufacturer recommendations.
Research and propose facility improvements aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing maintenance costs.
Supervise janitorial staff in non-production areas to maintain cleanliness and industry standards.
Collaborate with the Quality Control team to ensure the facility meets regulatory requirements including FDA, OSHA, GMP, HACCP, and SQF standards.
Qualifications
3–5 years of experience managing an industrial facility.
Maryland Stationary Engineer License/ Certification, grade 3 or 4 required.
Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate root causes and resolutions.
Proven negotiation skills and vendor management experience.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate and direct team members.
Prior experience in a food processing environment is preferred.
